Oh The Horror!
I spend Tuesday, Wednesday, & part of Thursday cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Because Mr. Sinful had to work, Batgirl & I decided to join my sis & her family at her in-laws house. Now, BabySis had already told me that her MIL couldn't cook so she asked me to make some mac & cheese to take over there. She'd do the candied sweets, string beans (or green beans as she calls em ), & ham. I'd made a pan of dressing for BabySis to take home with her.
We arrive at the in-laws house, extend holiday greetings & prepare to eat. BabySis had snuck in a small container of my dressing because the MIL makes StoveTop which we don't fukk with. The MIL had cooked a huge turkey, an industrial pot of greens, & a host of store bought salads. As we were setting the table she announces that everybody has to season their own greens because she doesn't use seasoning. What? She busts out some ancient salt & pepper shakers that I don't think have seen the outside of that cabinet since the last holiday. I take the lid off the greens & ain't shyt in there but greens & water. No meat, no salt, no pepper, no nothing. She just washed dem sommabytches & cooked em. UGH! Same thing with the turkey. Just washed & cooked. I'm so glad BabySis brought some ham. Just to be nice, I did put a slice of turkey on my plate, but damn if it didn't have no flavor.
When she took the foil off the pan of dressing, I almost died. It was grey. Looked like a pan of cement. Not a speck of onion, bell pepper, nor celery. Beige *** gravy complimented the dressing & flavorless turkey. I only ate the food we brought & that's all that Batgirl had. We hung out for a couple hrs. The FIL had me hemmed up in the corner & talked my head off. The kids played on the PS2. On the 45 min drive home, Batgirl chirps up from the backseat, 'Mommy, when we get home, can I eat?'
We stopped by my sis-in-law's on the way home. There we got to eat some REAL food. Girlfriend bought a fried turkey from Popeye's Chicken that was DA BOMB! She had the dressing & mac & cheese working. And she gave us a whole sweet tata pie to take home. Me & Batgirl ate like it was the last meal in this life.
I'll tell ya this much. I'm glad that even when we're invited out for a holiday dinner, I always cook at home. Because we'd have been *** out yes'day. I now know that no matter what. Under no circumstances will I ever be going back to my sis' in-laws house. That's just a waste of quality eating time. *smh*

Sade but it's both funny and sad at the same time.. What I don't understand is how The FIL could tolerate the MIL cooking after all these years. Did he not see it coming when they first got married or did he just not pay it any attention?
Glad ya got that Popeye's turkey though. I love their food. But can't blame ya for cookin' at home either. That's the best route to take.
at dressin' that was gray and looked liked cement

Hey Sade...that's called "Zombie Dressing"!!
At least that's what we called it when I was little and my aunt made grey dressing.

Sade....I'm sorry girl! But between dying with laughter and REALLY feeling sorry for a Sista, I learned this lesson long ago from my mother: "ALWAYS cook at home BEFORE you go to an invite--relatives included."
"Learn that lesson--the FIRST time!" :)

Samoon's got the good advice. That story is sad and funny all at once. Hey, at least you survived and didn't get sick.

Thank God everyone in my family can cook. And they teach u at an early age how to do it up in the kitchen. MANNNNNNNN lady no hamhock in the greens? Nothing? No fat grease anywhere? Somebody needs to tell the lady you can't season greens if they aren't seasoned while cooking and salt n pepper aint it. Somebody needs to tell her in a loving manner to stay away from the kitchen it is NOT her friend.
