warning: olde person.........

i am very angry at young people for letting their music culture slide so far down.
by this i mean the fixation on hip hop to the exclusion of everything else.
hip hop is OK, i listen to some myself but i'm really upset when i hear the youth talking as though they are Gods.
i mean, it's some of the dumbest music in the world.
it takes little to produce and even less to listen to it.

it hurts to think that young people cannot deal with any more complex music.
jazz, blues, gospel, whatever.

cats spend 20 yrs perfecting their art only to get beat out by some kid with a drum machine?

how low must our education be?

What kind of HipHop are you listening to? Get some Public Enemy, Dead Prez or Little Brother and go from there.

you miss the point.
i'm talking about young people who seems to feel hip hop is the only music on the planet.

they are missing out on so much.
everything from albert ayler to ziggy marley.

black music is so much bigger than hip hop.

I cant think of one black person I've ever met that just listened to rap or hiphop (even the young kids now get some exposure).

Lightbulb Olde person

Instead of being anrgy at the music choices of our young people reach out and open thier minds to diffrent music genre out here.

This summer in chicago we had hig school bands preform jazz and blues. There are always young folks singing in the gospel choir.

There are young people who do listen to all kinds of music and enjoy it. I know there are artist out here who have honed thier craft for many years and don't get recognize for thier work. Blame that on the record labels that don't promote them. Blame the radio stations who don't play them. Blame the schools and parents who don't open up thier minds to all of the music out here.

My son who is now 20 has been expouse to all kinds of music. I now have to get some of my old school and jazz from him.

So please don't be angry just help open up thier minds.

From and olde baby boomer.

James i totally understand you my bro. This myopia results from lack of knowledge of self. If we knew self we would know the vastness of our range and ability, we would KNOW WE are RAP, ROCK, JAZZ, COUNTRY and every art form imaginable..

BLACKMAN/WOMAN ..KNOW THYSELF..

black voter it also falls in the lap of the parents also. That mess you seen on tv is called PopRap not HipHop. How come you all are fooled by this false imitation of true music?

HipHop = Dead Prez, Public Enemy, Goodie Mob, Black Market Militia, Sunz of Man, Gravediggaz, KRS1, Immortal Technique, Talib Kweli, Common, Mos Def, The Fugees, Paris, Ras Kass, Little Brother and many other intelligent cats who do not degrade women and make the black man look foolish.

PopRap = that crap that comes on BET, MTV, MTV2, VH1, and other lame *** television programming. Kanye West isn't a HipHoppa. He is not in the category of HipHop. You all are getting confused.
