Jesse Jackson, Sr. ought to sit down
Jesse Jackson was an important activist and student leader in the struggle for Civil Rights in the 1960's. When Martin was alive, Jesse was a fireball, keeping the young turks involved and engaged when they were not entirely in agreement with Martin's use of pacifism and Civil Disobedience.
When Jesse ran for President in the 1980's, I supported him. I wrote a check, wore the t-shirt and button, made phone calls and voted for him in the Presidential primary. We knew he wouldn't be elected President, but the issue was getting representation at the Convention and in the writing of the party's platform.
Now Jesse is a pastor without a flock, a leader without a following, and Human Rights activist in search of a photo-opportunity. Wherever there is a hostage, a captive audience and an issue, Jesse is there, making a statement. He doesn't have a job, so he is accountable to nobody. But I think he ought to sit down.
His son Jesse, Jr. is an elected Representative to Congress, trying to make a name for himself, and Daddy is just getting in the way.
Jesse, Sr., would you please go now!??!
