I was just telling my friend last night...Mariah don't look nay black...i'm sorry she doesn't and I didn't understand why Essence claimed she was America's misunderstood black woman. No disrespect but at this point Mariah looks more latina than anything I mean I still don't see her proclaiming her black pride.
I HAVE A STEPSISTER WHO'S MOTHER IS 1/2 AMERICAN INDIAN & WHITE AND HER DAD (mystepdad) IS 1/2 AMERICAN INDIAN & BLACK & SHE HAS MARIAH'S COMPLEXION,HER HAIR IS GOOD BUT NOT AS GOOD AS MARIAHS.
WHAT ABOUT PEOPLE LIKE ROSARIO DAWSON, ISN'T SHE 1/2 BLACK, 1/3 BLACK OR SOMETHING?
also AMERIE, KELIS, AREN'T THEY ASIAN & BLACK. IF SO,DO THEY ACCEPT THEIR AFRICAN HERITAGE OR DENY LIKE TIGER (Woods)

Never cared for her even when she first cane out. Yes, she has a beautiful voice and noone can take that away from her but the whole diva thing is so played out and she played it with a full orchestra. The real divas like Gladys Knight and Patti Labelle never had all of these breakdowns and what not because they never let their music get bigger than them. They enjoyed the craft and just loved to sing. There is a difference between singing and performing and all Mariah has done from day one is perform so please someone tell her to get off the stage..........

I honestly don't give a rats turd about that child or the magazine. If people want to support her and the so called career, it's up to them. I haven't purchased a copy of Essence in years but I have ordered merchandise from Essence By Mail in the past.
Savoy Magazine is owned by Hermene Hartmann and she's Black/African American fo sho. Hopefully I'll receive my first issue in the mail real soon.

Think about it...

The fact that Essence may be owned by whites has nothing to do with it. It's a magazine for African Americans, but I'm not sure who owns it. That may have something to do with her being on the cover, and said to be so- called misunderstood. If she is/ was misunderstood, that may be based on the trashy way she's carried herself in recent years, or it may have something to do with the negative comment she's expressed about being part Black herself.

I give the girl props for at least trying to make amends with herself and deal with the issue.
We as black folks need to stop beating up on each other and help those who want to be helped and educate those who want to be educated...Bunk the ones who could care less. Heck, until I told some man who was hittin on me that I was black, he ASSUMED I was Puerto Rican. Black folks can and do look like a myriad of others.

My issue isn't with the fact that she's biracial, my issue is her so call struggle with accepting her BLACKNESS. Which in part may be her mothers fault. When I see Mariah my mind goes back to that initial interview on the Oprah show, when Mariah and her mother sat on that stage stating how difficult her life has been b/c of her African American heritage.
In my opinion, if her mother layed down with a Black man, then she should've been strong enough to introduce her BLACK child to her culture in a positive manner. BUT as an adult Mariah should've taken on that attitude on her own. I was insulted by a lot of the comments expressed by her and her mother, which were stated as if they were humorous.
You're so depressed that you had to seek therapy, b/c you have African American blood flowing in your veins ?!?!??! That's ridiculous ! I'm not beating Mariah up b/c she has issues with accepting who she is, my issue is.....If it's such a problem that ur Black, then stay your a** over there with the white folks and don't come back when you need something. Don't get me wrong, that's not just Mariah, that's anyone who isn't down for the struggle.
Surly she knows most white people can't feel her style, it's a lil too soulful for a lot of whites, Sure , she has a pretty voice, just a flucked up attitude. WE are the ones filling her bank account. YES Black ppl, the same race that's caused her so much pain.

I just feel bad for her since she appears to think that dressing like a trick is the best way to sell records, despite having an incredible voice. She could be real classy and sell records but wants to try to take the cheap way out. She seem desperate to me and that's always sad.

Because if people didn't buy her records and buy into who she is, she wouldn't have a career. Personally, I liked the old Mariah. I'm not saying that one shouldn't reinvent themselves, or decide that they no longer need to hide what they really are. Artists do it all the time, but Mariah's being picked on because she's had problems being mixed, and people can't understand why.
As a multiracial child myself, there is a stigma in the black community that if you don't talk a certain way, act a certain way, wear your blackness somehow that you're not black ENOUGH. I think that we black people do more harm to our own psyche now than white folks do. Yes they started it, but that doesn't mean we have to continue the cycle. Black folks are sooooo color struck (especially in the south where my families are from) that it's ridiculous.
Mariah needed therapy...So what...Good for her, at least she admitted that she needed help. Hell, I've sought therapy and I have to say it was a good experience and it helped. There's a whole bunch of us black folks out there that need to seek some therapy and get some pray and spirituality back into our lives.
I mean if you're going to pick on this one chick, pick on everyone. I think it's just hypocritical to stand in judgement of one person, when our ish ain't smelling all that great.

Mariah did everything in her power to look as white as she could. This post once again wasn't about being bi-racial, this post was about the comments she made about her hair, about how she hated who she was b/c of her father ( who by the way introduced her to music.....of course )
I'm not "picking" on Mariah Carey.....Like I said fluck her and anyone else who does take pride in being African American. READ my initial post, I also mentioned Michael Jackson. He stayed to hmself as well, caught a case, then decided he wanted to be MUSLIM. Hell, he changed his name and everything. WHATEVER HAPPEND TO THAT ?!?!? :lipsrseal I also mentioned OJ. Now these are people who are BLACK not bi racial. It's not about being Multiracial, hell aren't we all ?!?!?
The issue of being so- called hypocritical can be said about every statement put forth on this board. This is why we post threads, so that everyone can state their opinion. AND this thread was posted within the VENTING category, and that's what I'm doing. If anyone chooses to disagree that's fine.
