Blacks not being "The" Minority anymore

Today in one of my classes the instructor talked about gender and sex, and the discussion turned into one about discrimination, and the teacher reminded us of how as black folks, we will experience discrimination in our lifetimes because the color of our skin. We were also reminded of how Hispanic/Latino people have surpassed as in numbers and because of that is considered another thing that we have to overcome. The discussion then broke off into a discussion about Hispanics, and the topics covered where race among Hispanics being that there are White and Black Hispanics, and a debate about blacks gaining more unity amongst themselves or black and Hispanic leaders coming together to unite both races. People brought up points about whites being more open to Hispanics because of most of them have a more white-ish appearance where as others brought up the fact that if it weren't for African slaves there would be no Hispanics, so we (African Americans) should be open to uniting with them..

Well now I wanna turn that question to you all how do you feel in regards to that question, should be we look to unite with them or do we continue to gain unity among ourselves?

This is a good post because this is what I feel.

White America looks at everyone differently. If you're an attractive black or Hispanic male, the white chicks will drop their draws for you real quick. But if you just came across the border looking and smelling like you just fed a mule or a goat, they'd rather stick you in a sweat shop.. let you make your little $30.00 for the day and send you on your way.

White folks are strange creatures and I don't trust them as far as I can throw them. But then again that's the same way they feel about us unless you play in the NBA, have a recording contract with their CEO's, or you're considerded amongst the Who's Who. (what I mean by that is Who's gonna sleep with whoever to get over).

Seems to me that some Blacks and Hispanics stick together better then the Blacks hang with the Blacks and the Hispanics with the Hispanics.

Yes, the Hispanics have their Ricky Martins.. Their Jennifer Lopezs' and their Mark Anthonys too. But let one of them try to run for office. It's not gonna happen. Doesn't matter what shade of Hispanic is written on your face, they know it, you and I know it. It's not a fair ballgame at all.

so it doesn't matter if you're Jennifer Lopez's tone or Pedro Martinez's tone once white folks see that hispanic lastname they immediate begin make the playing feild as uneven as they do for us right?

Pretty much.. They figure why should I hire a Vasques or a Martinez with a college degree when I can get a Ballowitz or a Steinberg with no high school diploma under his/her belt and make it look good?

Continue to develop unity with self; for in my understanding of being a Pan Afrikanist, with an Afrikan Centered World View, its not about exclusion per se; its simply about being concerned with Afrikan needs first.

I recall an answer to my question asked Malcolm X: What do we call Puerto Ricans* - this was in Harlem? He: your bruthas and sistas. Yet the OAAU (Organization of African American Unity) was as I remember, 99.9% Afrikans.

*Baba note: they were/are classed as white by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Soul_Star, excellent post! This is certainly and interesting angle/perspective on minorities and how we are to live in whitey's world.

I look at other minorities as being in a very similar situation as blacks, but I am more concerned with the unity of blacks first and foremost. But I do sympathize with other minorities, because in Amerikkka, I see history repeating itself.

I work for a financial institution and nights when I work late, I see the latinos come in and clean the office. I make a point to speak with and hold a converstation at times. Amerikkka always had an insatiable habit for free labor, which is why she leaves her borders wide open.

See once you start a socio-economic system based on free labor, it's like a crack habit. Unfortunately this habit is at the expense of Minorities. So in this regard, latinos, mexicans etc... are the next wave of minorities to influx Amerikkka, so their situation is somewhat similar to what we have been through. Somewhat, that is.

But Blacks really need to get ourselves right together. We are making strides, but we are way too divided right now to worry about allegiances with other races. I feel that once we do make bigger strides in our unity, we will be much more effective in joining forces with other minorities to ultimately take back this country.

Have any of you taking a look at florida lately the cubans run miami they all hold offices of power they have moved the blacks out and they are keeping them out if you come to miami it is like going to another country. plus they have the ear of jeb and george. It is hard for anyone one to get a job in dade county unless you speak spanish it is unreal it is like the american blacks just layed down and let them took dade county I get so angry when I have to go down there and deal with them. and the way that they treat the brothas and sistas from haiti is down right dirty. the cubans here in florida are unreal they treat us blacks like we do not belong here so no we are not "the minority anymore we are the outcast if you let the cubans of florida tell it. man the way they acted with that ellan mess oh! my God! the were walking out in traffic on the expressway they were stopping traffic looting, the DJ's on this radio station power96 the spanish DJ's protested by not playing any music and saying that janet reno had no right to do what she did. Man these people had other spanish people on the lookout with guns. Oh! the topper is this they got so call spanish doctors in miami that are not doctors at all setting up shop and practicing right in miami and they get away with it until they mess up somebody, let a real doctor that is black come to miami they will check everything to make sure he is a doctor even his draws and check his office if he can get one on a regular bases like a drug bust. but not a cuban that says he's a doctor they won't check no one thing and that is no lie. the only time you find out that they are not doctors is when they mess somebody up like I said before. :checkit: :stirthepo

Miami is cuba plain and simple the anglo whites and fake wannabe jews did not want the blacks in miami so they let the cubans take over and helped them to drive out the american blacks. the cubans are moving farther up into florida now as we speak and nobody is doing anything to stop them no even the rednecks or the klan nobody is saying or doing anything except telling everybody else that the must learn to speak spanish.
