fork tounges

This is a continuation of my language gripe.

We hear this all the time on TV nowadays but humans are in the practice of being nasty to one another for reasons that are less than noble to say the least. I am guilty at times although I check myself enough to bite my tounge. But i get tired of hearing people say all kind of outlandish things about an individual or group of people just to get their point across or because they dont agree with them, like the Schiavo thing where she is callin people cruel and murderers, and sometimes on the net when two people disagree about something whether they were talking to each other or not one of them has to go on blast and start sayin all this personal **** about someone cause they dont agree with what you are saying. I have done it myself like I said but for the most part I like to stick to the issues at hand and I know there are people on this board that are more studius on different subjects but that doesnt mean they are chief authority which in turn means it is not right for them to blast people for not agreeing with them. Of all my complaints about message boards that is the biggest, the tone people take behind a keyboard is not always what it would be in person and not only because of the physical threat that may be percieved but it is simply not corteous or civil to bust on someone in such a rude way.

I have actually had people physically threaten me over the net, been called a sellout, white, gay, the list goes on and on and I know for a fact that most people wouldnt talk to me like that without thinking twice I mean I am 6'4" 250 pounds of athlete, but I lose all that on the computer but it seems that while people lose the physical presence while on the net some of us lose our humanity

That is a very good point. I believe that once the personal names come out, the validity of the whole arguement is lost. I have to say for example, there is a thread on here that talks about parenting. There is an individual that every time they begin talking about the topic, they begin with.....black parents....black families.......etc. Alright, yes, this is a black site, but why individualize the word 'black' like we are some oullandish creatures that do things completely different from the rest of the world.

I know personally I am with you MIM, we are all guilty of it from time to time. I know for me, if I have to go there, it's b/c I really can't think of anything else intelligent to say. lol

MIM thanks for this post...Because I know I'm guilty of it myself, it is a so much more fun place to be when we are all acting and talking to each other like adults.

It's Like That

Due to the current financial restraints the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Only slightly off topic......................but...........

I know for a fact that most people wouldnt talk to me like that without thinking twice I mean I am 6'4" 250 pounds of athlete,

M_I_M, I used to have a coworker about your height and maybe about 20 pounds heavier. He must have been outside his mind the day he threatened me with bodily harm. I'm 5'6'' and was probably 170 lbs back then.

We were in the cafeteria at the time of the threat. I told him that there was nothing that he could say or do to me that would ever make afraid of him. Trust me when I tell you that he never threatened me again.

If people want to think that I'm crazy and will hurt them, that works in my favor 'cause they will gon 'bout dey business and leave me 'lone.

You're about the size of my "baby" son...and he's a teddy bear.

But I do think that if people would just stop and read their post out loud to get the full impact of their words, bold font, exclamation points and all....before they hit submit, just think twice....maybe they might soften some of the language.

I totally agree with this statement.

Furthermore, I think it's very innapropriate to continue a 'fiery' disagreement from another conversation by spawing another and referencing another individual.

If there are topics you are are overly sensitive too, I suggest we all honestly assess that, and avoid those topics alltogether.

For example, I hardly ever post in the religous forum. Mainly because I see alot of religious views in absolutes, right or wrong, black or white. Because it is a very sensitive issue to me personally, I don't participate in those threads. Out of respect to all my fellow residents here in the community, I would not be a productive element of most of those discussions because of my oversensitivity. It's not fair to those who can discuss a given topic with some levelheadedness.

Just my opinion.

I don't discuss religion period. I will discuss politics outside of cyberspace though.
