11 year old boys

I am a basketball coach for sixth grade boys and I dont work with girls that age but I cant think of a more out of control group of children.

Sometime when they are running around in practice like chickens with their heads cut off I just want to give a couple of them a haymaker so they can slow down for a little bit.

I got this one cat who for some reason when he gets excited he will start biting his arm or his fingers to the point where they are bleeding and i know his parents see it so every five minutes I am like "ay boy what did i tell you about biting yourself" and he says "sorry coach i cant help it" and I got to believe him cause they are so hyped sometime i think they will all have heart attacks. I got one that will start hitting himself if he misses a shot, one day he messed up in a game and started kickin the wall his mom told him to "cool it" and he says "F you" only he actually said the "f" word and of course i pull him out of the game immediately and tell him if he ever talks to his mom like that again he will ride the pine for the rest of the season, but damn.

Last night was ridiculous all of them were just flippin out spinnin around in circles layin on the ground so on and so forth.

Sometimes you just cant take it, most of the time i will get five or six that will be on task but last night was a lost cause I think it was two out of ten that were paying attention at least half of the time. They are still good boys though and that was our last practice but some of them need tranquilizers.

Yep, kids these days are definitely outta control. I applaud you for coaching that age group. Junior high is rough for them, I think that's the age when their very critical on themselves. What others say means a lot to them. It certainly takes a lot of patience. BUT I think they put a lil sometin' extra in the Similac for each generation. Maybe that's why they created labels like ADD, AHDD...as an excuse for poor behavior. BUT the biting thing ??? I don't have a clue what that's all about, poor guy .

Yeah the biter is a fool he acts like an idot for the whole practice you never think he is listening but when the game is on its like he knows everything I tell him. I never say anything to him during the game cause he retains all information but he almost does it subconciously, he really is a good kid the biting thing is some kind fo spaztic thing for him kind of like screaming

Well, LeBron James bites the HE!! outta his fingernails ( THAT IRKS ME !!! ) on national televison, but he's the man. Hopefully, we'll see the lil guy on ESPN ten yrs from now :)

Give him a sleeve, like Iverson wears. Or a mouthpiece. I have coach 6th and 7th graders in the past. So, i can feel your pain. You will be rewarded 10 yrs from now. When, he comes to you all grown up and nothing like he is today. "Hey Coach, remember me".

LOL and good luck M I M...!! Dunno why but kidz are kidz at times. 11 yr olds can be lil monsters but 28 yr olds can be just as bad. (my daughter kills me with her kindness).

You'll be aw..ight. I've learned to respect the power of a lot of things since 1976..lol

I give you much respect b/c I have an 11 year old boy/ 6th grader. I wouldn't volunteer to couch him and a bunch of other kids his age if they paid me. Their libido or hormones at this age is at a supernatural high. I feel your pain. I'm praying he grows out of it, REAL SOOOOOON.
