Rude People
I work in a grocery store as a checker and the thing I hate the most is when customers throw money on the counter and just expect you to pick it up instead of jus handing the money to you. I know I probably shouldn't let it get to me, but it pisses me off. I had a couple of customers do that to me last night and after that I have just a bad attitude. I really have to force myself to smile and be friendly for the next customer.
I really like working with the public and for the most part I have really nice and courteous customers. It is just that select few that just mess with me. Just needed to get that off my chest.

I hear ya ebonysista, you know the best way to deal with people like that is smile, and lay their change if any, on the check out stand, instead of in their hand. They want you to respond negatively, 'cause in their lil' narrow minds, it gives them reason to act like they do. If no change is tendered, then still smile and thank them as you would your other customers. Ignorant a&& people finally get fed up with niceness, it'll juust have to rub off.

I agree with inkbutterbabie,
Smile, keep your positive attitude, Place the change back on the check out stand as they did & move on. Don't ever give in to their negativity.

I dislike this as well. It's seen as a sign of disrespect to most people in my culture. I was a cashier once. There are even people who do this with credit cards. *smh*

I used to hate when store workers did that to me, you know throw my money at me. I heard that Korean/Chinese people do that b/c they really don't want or shall I say can't touch you. I agree with keeping your head up b/c obviously you aren't there for the socialization, you are there to get the money. I also give you alot of respect b/c I don't know if I could do it.

Rude people!
I have a habit of apoligizing to people whenever someone has been rude to them. It tends to annoy some people but ask me if I care. For years, I've wondered if people get out of the bed each morning with a goal or being rude and or obnoxious to as many people as possible.
Once the rude party is aware that I've said "I'm sorry you had to go through that" or "I'm sorry he/she was rude to you", boy are they pissed! The individual will say " you didn't have to tell them that you were sorry because I wasn't being rude in the first place".
You should always make the effort to treat people the way you would want to be treated.
Let me say "I'm sorry" eventhough I know it won't make up for the rudeness that you've experienced nor the rudeness that is yet to come.

I agree. Don't let it stress you or ruin your day.
I've done that type of work before and when that would happen to me, as someone else stated, I would place their change back on the counter the same way they handed it to me and go on about my day. I also agree with you too, it does make it difficult to be so pleasant to the next customer, but don't let it get to you. I hate nothing more than to be pissed off at a person who in the long run means nothing to me, but that's just me.
Now, if I was the customer, I have said something to a cashier who could take my money out of my hand, but place or throw my change on the counter. I was never rude, just bold about it.

I can't say that I've been as noble as the lot of you. Often I respond to rudeness in my own, albeit less obvious, retaliatory way. You throw money at me, I'll mistakenly 'lose' some of it. And if it's found, I am too busy to pick it up.
If you pull in front of me in traffic, at night I'll open up my brights and foglights on the SUV on you. If in the daytime, Ill make my way beside you, drift over as if I'm not paying attention, pull infront of you casually and slow down weight below highway driving speeds.
But, fortunately for the rude, I am too busy trying to get somewhere , so I don't get to respond. So instead I usually have to settle for giving you a dose of the Samuel Jackson Pulpfiction stare just before you meet your maker.

I feel you on this one! When I was working at a Dept. Store, the customers did that to me too. I was working in a dominately, upper class black community. Some of the worst customers were white or were ghetto blacks (one threated to kill my friend, also a cashier-but anyways)- I dont me just from the ghetto-I mean no manners or dignity what so ever. And the white customers made so many da*ned demands; Im like "Look, this is not Lord & Taylor...." I swear I wanted to tell them to go pack to their uppity side of town...
BUT ANYWAYS AGIAN!!!!!!!!!!
The foreigners were the ones who through the money on the counter...And I couldnt stand it. Its like they think they're to good to hand it to you and even one African guy had the nerve to lash out at me and throw the money on the counter and say that his price was to high
OKAY; SO WHY DID YOOOOOU WANT IT?
Other than that, I held back my anger and just mumbled under my breath when the walked out the store.
I remember ALOT of the nicest customers that can through; one said that I had a pleasant attitude (a brazilian guy, I'd never forget his face), some held the craziest convos (the women, lol) and then some of the men would try to talk or flirt with me (sigh,...some fine men).
You have to just remember, that most custmers have this IDEA that you have to cater to them. When things get out of hand, you cant do that. Over all that I did give those customer my best customer service....In hopes that my anger wouldnt become an ulcer.
