Racism, Sexism, and Favoritism in the Work Place

A few days ago, I was fired from my job for going off at my assistant manager. Mind you, I shouldn't have went off, and I hold myself accountable for my actions. However, I was provoked to go off by the assistant manager. I came to my job on my off day to pick up a present from a fellow co-worker. I had been chatting with her for about 10-15 minutes, when I hear this racist nut in the background telling another employee "They better watch out or they will get hurt". He was referring to my boyfriend and I, two employees who have stood up and have tried to fight the racist, and sexist acts taking place at work. We have also stood up to fight the selling and smoking of drugs on the work place. The assistant manager then began to praise a staff leader, calling him the "best". Now mind you, this staff leader is a good worker, however, he is an Uncle Tom. He covers for the managers when they are hours late to work and he has witnessed the managers doing drugs with employees in the office. At this point, I couldn't take it anymore and I went over to confront the assistant manager. The assistant manager then began to dial the phone and call the district manager. The district manager heard me confront the assistant manager and he said I was fired. I was then told to leave the building. When I left, I told him to go to Hell and I called him a b*tch. Those are words I regret saying, but I don't regret standing up for what's right.

So now I am without a job because I choose to put an end to wrong doings. My boyfriend is still working at the this job and I am trying to give him as much support as he needs. He is the only one who will stand up, because he is a strong, Black man. I am proud of him for standing up for what's right.

I have been at this job for almost two years and it's messed up how the assistant manager provoked me and then called the district manager to listen in the conversation. Basically, I was set up. Other blacks have been set up at this job. Most of the managers screw up on the registers and blame it on the blacks. One night, as my boyfriend and I were leaving the building, we saw a white co-worker stealing money out of the Children's Miracle Network jar. We told the manager and nothing happened.

When I began this job back in '06, the work place was mixed. There were blacks, whites, and Hispanics. Now, the staff is all white and the blacks work the cleaning jobs. One night, my boyfriend and I heard the same employee who stole from the jar, brag to one of his friends about how he got the job because he was white. Blacks work in the back where they cannot be seen and work the most filthiest jobs in the building. I don't know if any of you have worked as an usher at a movie theater, but it gets tiring and disgusting cleaning those movie auditoriums and bathrooms.

A sistah is angry, but I need support also. I have never been offered the opportunity to become a staff leader. Most women who have become staff leaders are white, and haven't been involved with the company that long. I refused to smoke weed or do crack to get a higher position in the company. I also refused to spread my legs to get a higher position in the company. I also refuse to be an Aunt Tom or a good n*gger to get a higher position in the company.

I'm sorry, I know this was long, but like I said, a young sistah needs support. Pray that I find a good job and pray that justice is brought to those who do wrong. Peace.

We did nothing to them. Like I said, old whitey is upset that his drug kingdom is being brought down by people he thinks love to do drugs. That's what I think it all boils down to. When you are a good, law abiding Black citizen, White people can't stand that. When you get up on a White person for breaking the law, they get upset. They think Black people always break the law and love doing it. It's a shock to the system. White people don't like to be corrected.

You said you hold yourself responsible. You go to an environment you consider hostile ON YOUR DAY OFF. Then you proceeed to linger for 10 or 15 minutes. You have no gripe.

I understand how you feel and where you're coming from, but as previously stated; going up there on your day off and then hanging around is pretty much asking for trouble. But, everything happens for a reason and now you have an opportunity to find a better job.

Look, I'm not playing the victim at all. I told you all that I took responsibility for my actions. It seems like we have a bunch of good n*ggas that have never done anything stupid before. Geez. As for griping, I have every right to gripe. I didn't ask the assistant manager to provoke me. He did it on his own. Am I supposed to sit here and beat myself up when I'm not the only one in the wrong? As for b*tching... I'm not a b*tch so I DON'T b*tch! Am I upset? Yes, because I was wrongfully set up. Everyone seems to ignore the fact that I went there to get a present for my friend. We were not able to meet up after work because she will be leaving the city for the summer.

I'm never coming back to these forums. It seems like everyone here only cares about their own opinions and their own problems.

Selfish, arrogant, lack of understanding, mean spirited, miserable, yeah... seems about right.

Why are you here if this is such a sorry forum?? I am not frontin' I have never done something as stupid as you to get fired. I have NEVER been fired from any job for any reason. Nobody's actin as if their a Saint, but what's done is done.I deal with BS everyday at my job, but as long as it doesn't affect my paycheck, I keep it moving. I'm not saying stay in a workplace where you're being disrespected, I'm saying get a gameplan together before you go cursing people out and ending up unemployed. Because in the end, when all your cussing is done, they still got they job and you lost yours. There's a way to deal with ignorant aholes like the ones you worked with and cussing them out was not it. Maybe getting some of the illegal transactions on tape or something to show to the District Manager or police would've work. Or recording some of the racist conversations. Just my opinion.
