Has this ever happened to you?

Once again, thank you to everyone who commented. Things have certainly taken some dramatic turns since my original post. I tried to work this out by ignoring her. Didn't work. I tried to work it out by talking to her about it, didn't work. Her behavior towards me was simply unbearable. So I did what I did not want to do. I went to the Vice President of our department and discussed it with him. He assured me he would handle it. I'm not sure what he did or how, but things are finally back to normal. She was quite upset with me, and made a few snide comments to me in a round about way. She missed a day of work and when she returned, everything was amicable again. Not sure if it will remain peaceful, but at least I'm not stressed and angered at the moment. So all is well that ends well....That's if it was actually the end.

I agree with the comments about sisters needing to build a network of support for each other. But if one extends an olive branch and the other doesn't receive it, what do you do?

Don't let her fool you...it ain't over until she "feels" that it's over. Okay. You have attempted to give the sista an olive branch. I'll be blunt with you. You will have to watch your back with this one. Snide comments? Keep on keeping on...only when you must interact with her, "kill her with kindness." And the beauty of it is? After time has passed, it will become "habit" in continuing to treat the sista in a decent and respectful manner. And since your VP has been made aware of the dissension, s/he will be "watching" both of you. If you are looking to continue climbing that corporate ladder, let that BE your focus and guide. Steer clear of her pettiness and general discord. She has to harbor these feelings--not you.

There is a reason why she has been in her position for ten years. Now do you get it? (smile)

What do you do when you are ignored until a white couterpart steps in and has to "break it down" for the one to whom you were speaking?

Me, personally, that used to happen to me in highschool. I did nothing at all; most of the other students were black and it was like 5 whites in the whole school. I was reticent in highschool, but I am not like that now.
But anyways, to answer the question at hand, I would have done what you just did. You were right for saying that! I always do, I have to now that Im in college. It usually perplexes the whites and they turn beat-red . Plus, I have this fascination with finishing a debate, when I know Im right, with some of the professors.
