belly fat is an indicator of heart attack (trust me).
many people first realize they have a heart problem when they die.

Many people would be surprised to know that they are over weight even if they don’t think so.
http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/
It would seem that even in the year 2006, this is still a man’s world. The woman has to still attune to the man’s view. This thread is speaking on over weight sistas and the health problems that come with it. These posts are very biased. Also these opinions suggest two things at the very least. 1. It’s ok for the black man to be fat and chunky and the black woman is just going to have to accept it. 2. Being thin has no down side to it. Thin people are just as fit as a fiddle. Well let me dispel these two myths.
Bruthas are dying just as much from the same diseases as sistas. Some are cancer, stroke, and cardiovascular disease to name a few. 61 percent of black men are overweight or obese
http://www.soulciti.com/news_detail....ws_article=498
this issue is complex, b\c sedentary lifestyle and poor diet are at the root of the problem. Some blacks face many social and structural disadvantages that lead to limited access to nutritious food, and few outlets for physical activity.
Proudbrothaman said to “blame this on Monique.”.i never knew it was a crime to love yourself, have self esteem, and be confident in who you are no matter what your size. She knows who she is and she's proud of it. More women need to be like her. And people were over weight well before Mo’nique was heard of.
Now the other myth, being thin equals being healthy. Some women (and men)in their efforts to be thin develop various eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia.
http://www.mirror-mirror.org/ed.htm
The bottom line here is self-acceptance; in all circumstances is a good thing, self loathing on the other hand, precipitates eating disorders on both ends of the weight spectrum. Being fat and loving yourself is not being socially irresponsible.
This should be a concern for the race as a whole and not just a particular sex of the race.

I mean why try to fit into something that small? Do they (those that dress that way) think it's sexy or attractive? I mean do they honestly believe that it's attractive in any way? And besides the look, there are health problems that come along with being overweight like that, respiratory problems, heart problems, etc. I mean, I know that at least some of them have to be unhappy with being overweight and do nothing, when all they need to do is eat better and excercise. As a matter of fact, just reducing your salt intake will drop pounds, but I guess some people are happy like that, and if they are well that's good for them, but don't complain when you get stared at.

Is this thread about the health-issues connected to obesity or is it really about the "attractiveness" or lack of "attractiveness" of heavy Black women? There are places in the world (hell, even here in Amerikkka)where heavy Black women are the IDEAL. So what is this REALLY about? I'm beginning to wonder what the real motivation behind all this is: just another excuse to hate on some Sisters? Make me believe that's not it. Cause it's sure starting to feel like it. Feels like you're kicking Big Girls when they're already down. I almost wish I were heavy so I could really tell it! This is becoming pointless and hurtful. And a Sister has enough to deal with in this world. You feel me, Brothers?

Good point. Keeping it real and positive as usual, darkreign.

He is not hating on sisters, just the way those dress when they are of a larger size, which sometimes can be a bit demeaning to themselves, and draws attention, which one has to admit if they are honest.
The real answer is to dress your size, head to the gym and start exercising if you wish to fit into a smaller size dress. The same can also be applied to the brothers.
As previously mentioned beauty comes in all sizes, but it will only be seen if one dress according to their size. I think that is what he was trying to point out.

yes, i agree. but it is unfair imo to hold the black woman to this standard and not ourselves. if he's comming from the point of finding a mate, ok. the men issue is a mute point. but if its an health and dress issue then the same should apply to the men also. the message that i'm getting is that bruthas can be fat and sloppy but our women can't. maybe i'm wrong

Maybe it lies in the fact that women have a lot more to put on 'display' as opposed to men, and that there is more pressure on women to slim down than there is on men?
However you look at it, there wil always be that extra pressure on women hence all of the beauty products and diet supplements geared toward women.
Still, men are catching up, with the beauty products etc, that is. Hey, they are even having nail extensions.
