Cell phone abuse
I wanted to know if I'm the only person who is annoyed by all of the rampant cell phone use today, especially at the university I attend. Are you annoyed or agitated by the over use of cell phones by the general public?

I am enraged by the use of cell phones while driving. I do it myself occasionaly but only if someone calls me or I need to call someone for something important. And even so, it's only a 2 min. call. The folk who just hop in their cars n' ride out n' get lost in la la land are the one's that agitate me to a great extent. The past 4-5 times someone's pulled out in front of me or almost hit me it was because they were on a cell phone. I'd look to see exactly why they failed to see me and it always turns out to be a cell phone up to their damn ears. It's really gettin' outta hand n' something needs to be done about it. I know they've made it illegal (you have to have a headset) in some states but it really needs to be mandatory for the nation. I'm not even sure if it's illegal here in the state of FL.

It really works my last nerve! All the phone use can't be that important.
My question is...What did we do before cell phones were so popular? Now we can't live without them...like oxygen.

I don't much care to hear folks private conversations or arguments. I especially hate being held up in checkout lines while someone talk about, IMO, absolutely nothing.
I believe that Cell phones have long passed the idea of a necessity to one of a fashion statement.

If it henders someone from handling their business yes, but I don't allow other people to inconvience me. I guess have more on my plate to be angry about or maybe I have more to be happy about. It's their phone they pay the bill...not my concern.

Agree with all the previous statements. I don't like people driving and being on the phones because their concentration is diverted from the car to the phone. I don't like people talking on the phone loudly in public. If you do it softly it doesn't bother me because IMO it's the same as if you're talking to someone you're with. But all that loudness- even if you aren't on the phone I think loud conversations are rediculous. I can take or leave the cell myself. I do think it's a great invention but it's definitely over used. And like Urfan2c, I too have more important things on my mind though so I try not to dwell on the issue.
But I gotta ask WTF is up with cellphone usage at sporting events?! I be damned if I'm at a basketball or football game on my damn phone. Hell, I get a bit peeved if someone calls while the game is on and I'm at home so you know I'm not about to be on the damn phone at the real thing!

It's really annoying when people don't turn off the ringer in public places like the movie theater, church, concerts. Then have the nerve to answer the phone...and TALK!!!

What's even worse is that when it's being used on the highway while driving. It's real bad in VA, and I hope the law gets passed to ban it. I was in an accident last year because someone was driving and not paying attention on the cell phone. No one got hurt, but ther was over $6,000 worth of damage to my car.

I only gotta minute to vent but.....
I ride a commuter train everyday and the abuse on public transportation is horrible
Loud laughing, spilling all your business to "you don't know who"
I heard a lady on my commuter train make reservations of some sort and give out her credit card number with expiration date
Nobody seems to know what is appropriate behavior.

And they wonder why identity theft is rampant.
Im guilty using my cell while driving. I do it pretty frequently too. Ive heard that its dangerous because you're focused on the conversation. Really?
So whats the difference between holding a conversation on the cellphone, opposed to holding a conversation while driving with a passenger in your car?
Its illegal here to talk without a headset, so I continue to talk with my headset. I think the most dangerous thing about it was talking with one hand, because that arm that you're holding the phone with is blocking your view.
Otherwise, if it were the conversation that made it dangerous, then when you have someone in the car with you, I suggest you not hold conversations. Its the same thing.
