You don't see us debating whether or not it's good to take a shower in the morning? Fortunately, we all see eye to eye on that one. Knowing how to dress appropriately for an occasion is a critical social skill that, frankly hiphop doesn't teach. If the world was hiphop and most people adopted the hiphop culture, then in more cases, it would be appropriate to dress the culture for that situation.

HipHop is much about rebelling against the mainstream rules of society. Sadly, this philosophy has led to many failing black youth and adults as they buy into this mentality. HipHOp is not about hustling for a good job, business or career, being a good wife, husband, etc.... It's about most things that ultimately bring negative impact to our communities. Dress is no exception when innappropriate for a given situation or social/business setting.

If a person (adult or kid) comes to me with baggy shirt and pants that fall below his ***, we can have a casual conversation, but I'm not looking to hire him for a job or discuss business with him. Why? Because there is nothing coming from that individual that exudes business or professionalism.

The fact that someone wants to defend sloppy and inappropriate dress speaks volumes about where that individual is in maturity.

Now, we all know that whites and blacks often go overboard with outward appearance to justify prejudice or stereotyping; such as looking down on those that wear dreds, locks, etc... Indie Arie's song pounced on this issue feircly and accurately.

So people have to make a choice; dress the way you choose, but be adult enough to face the consequences of your peers in that setting.
