Man Bashing
I hear day in and day out about music and television need to stop degrading women. No more B words..etc..etc. I'm all for that. When are they talk about stopping the degrading images of Black men? I don't know about anyone else but I'm tired of being portayed as a crook, drug dealer, pimp, womanizer, rapper, women beater.

It will stop when we start teaching our sons that those negative images aren't acceptable so they grow up into men who shun not only those lifestyles but also control their images if they become entertainers.

It gets annoying how blacks in general are portrayed, but until a lot of behavior modification is made, people can't expect we'll be taken seriously as a group of people. People act shocked when they see that I am capable of speaking properly and being well aware of things besides the newest music video out. I've been told since 7 that I talk too "white", so if that's what blacks call being able to efficiently communicate, what does that say for them?

But Jamie we not aight. Those images are doing horrible things to our youngins. These little boys are growing up thinking that these are the people to be and emulate. It's sad. What makes it worse is that our men who aren't these stereotypical images aren't doing anything themselves to combat it. So you have the little boys growing up into men who continue the cycle.

Thanks! Someone sent me a step by step of how to do this (cuz you know I'm really not into all that extra internet technology and special effects and such) and I thought it might be interesting to create so there it is. Glad you like it. I do too.

We're missing the point, yes we have a lot of work to do within ourselves and our families. In the public all that is shown is a negative image but in "private" we have a multitude of young men being taught the right things. We have doctors, lawyers, electricians, teachers..and so on. This man bashing isn't going to stop until we have the same kind of movement the ladies are currently having, public people saying to stop this nonsense. Someone to say this brotha is not a crook, he is not a dead beat dad, he is not a drug dealer. I disagree with Ran Ran (no disrespect brotha), I believe a lot of mothers and father's( or big brothers or uncles) are trying to combat these images, I'm one of them. The only problem is it's like trying to talk to someone in a club, the images drown you out. That's why it has to be put in the public by public figures.

Now it is true that some parents are trying to teach their kids the right things at home, but there are few and far between. I personally think a major problem (specifically where the younger generation is concerned) is the lack OF parenting. Women are having kids at younger and younger ages, so their more concerned with being a friend than a parent. The children grow up seeing their mother trying to wear the latest ghetto fashion, listening to the latest music videos, cursing, acting out, and just downright being apathetic toward their present life situation. Yeah, they're told to go to school, but I've seen time and time again where the lack of discipline has got these kids doing stupid stuff. I just saw a boy no more than 14 getting escorted out of a local carnival we had in our city by 3 cops for instigating some nonsense. The majority of the people that went were black and most of the girls that were there had on clothes they had no business even wearing. And then people wonder why these same ones end up pregnant at 14 and on welfare by 16... Something's gotta give...

I agree with you Proud that there are SOME who are doing their part. Our community has it's issues but we're not a dead community, we still have lots of parents and others taking their roles in this society and in their families very seriously. Unfortunately, as Love2Talk points out, we still have lots of others who are doing nothing. But I do agree that more public figures should speak up and out about it. The crazy thing is that most of the ones with enough profile to cause any change are the very ones throwing these images in our faces.
