What would you do??
Hello all,
So I was at the laundromat. And there was thing young couple. The guy was all gangsta, jeans hanging all the way down to the knees, and showing all his a**. His girl couldn't be more than 20 years old.
It was very busy and from the time they entered they were arguing and cussing each other out.
This continued all the while until about closing time, only the three of us were left. I tried blocking out all the swearing and abusive cussing. Then thing escalated and the guy hit his girlfriend. I was so shocked for two reasons:
1. that people dared behave like this publicly.
2. I thought anno 2006 women nor men would accept this from their partner!?
Anyhow she hit him back and for a moment I wondered if I should intervene and say something? Instead I finished folding quickly and scooted. :frown:
What would you have done??

I would've minded my own business because if he didn't have a problem hitting her, he sure as heck wouldn't have a problem hitting you. And she obviously didn't mind because she stayed there with him, even if she did hit him back. You did the right thing, IMO.

I guess I would've left it alone too becaue there's no telling what he might've thought of doing to me just by me being there. Sometimes ya wanna say something but you :zipit: and not intervene.

You did what was right for you in the moment. I can't knock you for not trying to do something. As for me, I don't know what I would have done. That's just a really odd predicament to be in truth be told.
Maybe I would think to call the police, but then again, the judicial system isn’t all the concerned about rehabilitating damaged people; just making money off damaged people. It's just a sad state of affairs all around.

You did right
As bad as this may sound you did the right thing. A friend and I intervenened once when a guy was beating his girl right in the street. When the cops got there she told them, 'WE ATTACKED THEM!"
The cop let us all go and told me and my friend to mind our business, he said " At some point she'll get tired of being beat and leave if not she'll wind up dead and that no one can save her but her.

"YOU create your own mess." Think...this was not the FIRST time I surmise that this scum-bag laid hands on her. She BEGAN the basis of this relationship from the FIRST time that he laid hands on her. Seems that she was never taught to embrace and love herself. A pity.

I would have minded my own. No need in getting assaulted or worse over something like that. It's probably something they do all the time based on the story in the original post.

I was in a similiar situation almost a year ago and I intervened when a female was being roughed up in public by her boyfriend. But I caught a lot of flack from people who knew me and heard about it cuz they felt in this day and time it is stupid and dangerous to do that kind of thing. But I couldn't stand by and watch this young lady getting her azs whooped in broad daylight, on a busy street in front of dozens of people while none of those folks made any moves to get involved. Maybe if the circumstance presented itself again I'd do it differently because there are a lot of folks in their grave having intervened with good intentions. I don't know though. How can you really stand around and watch something like that??? I just can't.
