I dont bang white girls, but I do agree with maximus on one thing. By avoiding them, you are only limiting yourself. I personally talk to them everyday. I go to their houses for office parties and dinner when invited. The only way to really get to know the enemy is to befriend them. After all they are the ruling race in this country.

Aiight Notiq, to answer your first question, you are limiting yourself by not by not associating with them. Whitey IS going to teach you that slavery did exist. That is too simple and general. What they are not going to teach you is the manipulation game. And I know Whitey does not care about me, but so do not some of our brethren out there. My point is that most-likely whitey is the majority in your company's hierarchy, right? So why not rub shoulders with them when possible. I don't like them, but I play the game!! And I don't mean having lunch with some peon the same status as I am as you did (what did you expect her to say?). I don't purposely not speak to someone based on their skin color. However, people chat with whom they are most comfortable with which is those of their own race because they have things in common, similiar experiences, ect.

But YES, I NETWORK and SOCIALIZE with white people and other races because my job requires it. 2. I'm trying to be remembered so the next time Mr.Whiteman is doing pay raise, promotions, ect...he knows who I am (I'm trying to move up in the job market.) I agree with Soulbrotha you don't have to be best friends with white people but I do NETWORK and use SAAVY SOCIALIZING with white folks in my past for education opportunities (scholarships, profs writing my recommendations, ect) and now for career opportunities. Please continue to stay in your "black" bubble so that there is less miniority competition in the job market. I'm trying to achieve 6 digit salary. :)

I agree! Suckin up to whitey and going to his parties is not gonna get you anywhere. What is going to get you anywhere is getting your education, working hard and demanding the same treatment, promotions, etc., that they white folks who (at least at my job) hardly do their job, receive no training and still get promotions. However, the company still gets f*cked because, after whitey gets what he wants, they are gone to the next company.

We don't need to socialize with them, cause they are not truly interested. Just watch them and learn to play the game.

All day at work its one game after another, you just have to be smart and play right along with them.

But may I also add, that its not only the white folks to look after. The director of the department I work for is from Sri Lanka and a straight racist. Around the blacks he tries to convince us that he's "down" (we are not fooled)and a part of our struggle and at the same time talks about white folks like dogs. However, he is with whitey all the way! He's only fooling himslef and whitey.

It depends on where you work and what your goals are. If you are very interested in advancement, and you have a social boss, then yes you need to socialize a bit as a means to further your goals. If promotions are of no concern to you, or if the higher-ups at your job don't want to chit chat with you, then no it isn't necessary.

If you went to work evey day, kept your head down and worked hard, why would this man think of coming to you with this new opportunity? He wouldn't - and that wouldn't be of any offense to you, it's just that you wouldn't even enter his mind.

Showing up and doing a good job just isn't enough anymore. Talking on a social level - and of course having the opportunity to converse about yourself and what you bring to the company and to the table - means so much more than having a personnel file which reads, "Solid employee. Performs job very well. Never late..." that isn't what makes you shine. When new opportunities come up, decision makers don't comb through the files down at HR. They think, "Who do I want on my team?" and they mentally comb through the people in the company they know.
