On my way to work....

On my way to work this morning for some reason I felt offended when I saw black men picking up trash. What wrong with that? Nothing really, but the way they were doing it, it looked as if they were picking cotton.
The grass was high and they had bags with them as if they were in a feild.
I know that these cotton picking days are long gone. But I am just giving you the veiws and how I felt when I saw them. It just made me think.

They might've been doing it as part of their work release program.

Offended--why? Heck no! I'd rather a man pick up trash to support his himself and his family than engage in illegal activities. It's a honest day's living. You should be offended by those NOT working or trying to better themselves.

probably just work release cons or men that are still in the county jail who are not a danger to be let out to do community service.

Lovelyliz, I'd much rather see men picking up trash than standing on the corner selling drugs any day of the week. I'd rather see men picking up trash than committing any type of illegal activity.

I was born in Chicago and never picked cotton a day in my life. My mother on the other hand, worked in the fields (AL) along with her siblings.

Its common practice to drive along the highways and see prison road crews out picking up trash. County jails and community service volunteers also pick up trash. The only way to tell who is who is the orange jumps suits worn by county inmates or the department of corrections jump suits worn by those inmates.

this kinda reminds me of back in the day as a teenager, when me and my friends was doing stupid stuff like sneaking out at night, scratching up people cars and breaking out windows. well, we got caught and sent to jail. i was begging them not to cell my grandma cause i knew she would tear my *** up, i told them to call my cousin instead because i knew he wouldn't be so hard on me. but my other friends, their parents didn't care. we had to do community service of picking up trash on the streets where the city officials had to watch. it was kind of embarrassing because all our classmates saw us. after all that was done, i stayed out of trouble.
