Then the priest would get up there and go to his lecturn and his homily and it would be about.........NOTHING. I mean I don't mean to be disrespectful to what he was trying to do, but honestly, I wasn't feeling him. I mean how is this man in this nice robe, going to really answer my questions, and NOT use something other than what was going on in the world today. I'd ask questions all the time. I asked in confession one time, how come we sin, and the priest actually got an attitude, and asked me if I had a sin to confess. That was my first and last confession. I still went to church, but I never went on Saturday's, which was the day you confessed your sins and if you chose, go to 5 o'clock mass. Even my mom stopped going years ago, and when we would go, she wouldn't take communion, she didn't feel like she was worthy. I now TOTALLY understand that logic.
I mean maybe if they would provide real answers, USE THE BIBLE, and talk TO people instead of AT them. And then stop begging for money for the ministry, when they could easily sell that BENZ that the congregation bought and actually do something to help their flock, then maybe people would actually want to stay and hear what you had to say.

In my church, I love and respect my pastor, but he simply bores me. I love and trust God with all my heart, and I try hard to listen for the message, but I also start watching the clock. Now my church isn't too bad with time, but I've been in some where it was ridiculas. People screaming and jumping, and choir sanging constantly, and seems like Rev. is trying to keep everybody stirred. Sometimes it's too much. I too like quiet time with God. I've been taught that the church is in your heart. I don't condemn church service, I just feel that if the time is going to be lengthy, then let there be something that happened there, that will stay with me forever.
And believe me there are times when I question myself with, would I feel time is important if I were sitting in a Luther Vandross concert? Honestly, that's a battle I have to deal with between me and God. But the truth is, the answer is no, time would not be important. I'm just keeping it real.

If it's over four hours, then it's too long.

When the choir has sung a whole CD, the congregation takes communion like it literally is "supper" (not the last supper, but supper nontheless), and the congregation looks outside the window only to discover that when they entered the building it was dalight, but now it is dark outside because the preacher tried to hit on every key point from Genesis to Revelation. These might be some "revelations" indicating that "Service is Way Too Long". lol

Sista for telling it like it is. For a minute, I was beginning to wonder if the value systems of the minister and Church going astray.

I think two hours is the maximum.
With a service going on from dawn till dusk no wonder many stay at home.

Man Let jump in on this one LMAO-Anytime Rev, has prayed for over 45 minutes, taking up money takes up another hr and the choir has sang the entire Kirk Franklin Stomp CD
And we haven't got to meet and greet all the colored folks yet-and you have been in there since Sunday School started at 9:30am and Mother Griffith just decided now is the time to stand up and Thank the Lord for her 80+ year of life and it's already 3:30 in the afternoon u been in church far too long-been there done that that's why I get my church these days off the tv because I can turn off the preacher, the choir, and that over testifying/shouting Sis Jones anytime I like....

The current 11-1pm is fine IMO. Staying in church half the day isn't going to get you any closer to heaven, I get figgity after sitting too much.

When the preacher starts dragging out the message sounding like an offbeat rapper, with the choir breakdancing, the usher's doing the electric slide when passing the collection plate, the old lady at the church is testifying for everything (including those ugly church shoes), and its 3:00pm and the service started at 11:00am, its time to go.
