A elitist is a person who beleive that they are better than another person or group based on their social or econimc status. I think a perfect example would be Tiger Woods.

Len777's definition of an elitist is a good one -- anyone who thinks they are superior to others. Who is an elitist? Pretty much everybody.
Christians who think they alone are good enough to get into heaven are elitists.
White people who think their arms and wealth entitle them to rule the rest of humanity are elitists.
Americans who think their country is the best country in the world are elitists.
Black people who think they are gods among men are elitists.
And, Kobe -- well, no need to say more about him -- or Kanye West.
Elitists live by the notion of separatism: - I am not you.
- I am separate from you.
- I am superior to you.
Elitism is the antithesis of Oneness. Elitism is the inevitable consequence of Ahamkara -- Ego -- the idea I am not One with God.

dictionary definition first:
Elite
Adjective
1. Selected as the best; "an elect circle of artists"; "elite colleges".
Noun
1. A group or class of persons enjoying superior intellectual or social or economic status.
=================================
Now I think a lot of Black people have a contradictory attitude about this in that most will exhibit a negative attitude about the term but how many Black people like sports? If you think about it sports is unquestionably elitist. Don't the best players score the most points? Don't the best players get the most money? Isn't Mohammed Ali saying:
I'm the Greatest!
being Elitist.
But I noticed at the mixed Catholic high school I attended when we went to gym class Black boys would talk about competing with the White boys at sports. But no one ever suggested that at academic pursuits.
What is the alternative to elitism? MEDIOCRITISM?
Now the problem is when people claim to be superior but they are not but are for some reason in a position of power and you have to put up with crap from them. So it is really about Egotism and Power.

Elitist are people that have risen to the top of their social class. Lately it has been used in a negative fashion, but it is not really a negative word.

What about Bill Gates ripping off Gary Kildall with IBM's help?
Quote:
While they were talking to Bill Gates about BASIC, IBM asked if he could also provide an operating system. Bill Gates answered "yes" and signed the contract. He had no product, no market and nothing at risk, so what the hell. Renegotiate later.
Microsoft purchased QDOS (Quick and Dirty Operating System), a rip-off of CP/M (proven in court) from Seattle Computers for next to nothing and set out to finish it up. Unfortunately, Microsoft didn't have the skills required for operating systems, so IBM had to do much of the finish work just to get the PC out the door.
Having almost no investment in DOS (Digital Research, Seattle Computers and IBM had done nearly all the work), no production costs (IBM did the production) and competing with companies that had a lot invested in their product, Bill Gates decided to sell at a price lower than others could reasonably match to drive competitors out of the business.

my understanding to this would be (excerpt from an article)
Quote:
|
For professional-middle-class progressives activists like myself, it's easy to understand why working-class people would be alienated by the mainstream culture of well-off people. After all, we tend to be alienated by it ourselves, because it represents values we've rejected, like greed and materialism. But the idea that working-class people would have any negative reactions to our own subculture, in particular our values-based "alternative" norms, tends not to occur to us.
|
isn't this almost like middle against poor and rich against middle and poor?
""Upper middle class not too rich, not too poor"". this is what i think some upperclass black folks are.
