Whether this person backed or voted for that candidate during the primaries etc. isn't the subject I was led to believe the person who started this thread wanted or needed it to be about...
Whether Obama (like Cosby before him) knows and understands the nature of the issues and problems facing all black biological fathers in 2008 IS!
Yes it is true that merely being a part of the usual process which helps to bring new life into our midst does not imply or suggest such folk will be good parents too:
But even from my personal observations?
It was and is an acquired skill...
Some things others did not learn:
Some things others must teach them...
Otherwise this johnny come lately act said person or persons are a bad reflection of (be it Cosby or Obama) is really besides the point...
As I've said and written before:
I've long since made the distinction between how somebody fronts as opposed to me truly needing and wanting to find out what they truly represent...
FYI...
Later...

Chuck:
You just made my day!
And let's do reclaim our places as adult contributors in the mix!
I. e., shall our communites become or remain the bastions of the confusers and the losers, or what we conceive and perceive them to be?
Time will tell...
FYI.
Take care...
Peace...

I dont really understand peoples rejection of Obama. I'm not politically savvy so I'm not going to argue his politics but I will say this....He is running for President of United States of America, not the President of Blacks in America. In order to be able to effect the change that we want, he has to appeal to the masses. He won't get elected gearing his entire campaign towards the needs of black people. He would shut out all other voters and the thereby lose the election. That seems like common sense to me. The fact of the matter is that many blacks in America do not want to go back to Africa, they want to co-exist and be treated fairly in AMERICA. I believe that is possible. He may only be half black but he is married to a black woman and his children are black. That says a lot to me because he could have married a white woman who was more beneficial to him in a number of ways. At the end of the day, we are living, working and raising our families in America and we have a choice to make. McCain or Obama. Who will you choose?
Also, maybe the naysayers should look at the broader picture. How could Obama being elected the next president HURT black people? If he did nothing at all to help blacks, he has at the very least opened the door for the next black person to be elected president. He has shown young black men that someone who looks like them can run this country. They will then aspire to that and believe that they can realistically achieve that. Belief in self is the catalyst for all achievement so my hat goes off to Obama for painting that picture for our sons to see.

Agreed. The following statements were poignant indeed.

He will lead them to believe they will only be able to achieve if they distance themselves away from the race.

I'm afraid that the real issues and problems did not and do not exclusively and solely revolve around Obama's allege snubbing of black people during his bid for president:
I do feel and think there are things too many blacks in general refuse to face up to reflect their own regression and retreat...
For any of us--or for them-- to blame others for that is far too typical--uh--'American'...
I. e., the illusion is we can go on pretending like this nation's leaders practice what they preach, or we can face up to the fact they don't and we need better ones, i. e., advanced and promoted from within our own communities, etc. who have the courage and the guts to truly tell it like it is, though not on the basis of uninformed opinions--which is how Cosby came across awhile back--and Obama is nowadays--but on the basis of verifiable facts...
That is:
The whole nation's voting population should be engaged in open discussions about what shall be the basis of who we need and want to be our next leaders, not arguing and bickering about the shortcomings of the present individuals, who are just the latests ones trying to get elected to office, but on the basis of the same old failed policies/viewpoints/etc.
Otherwise we'll merely continue to wind up with surrogates for the rich, rather than true advocates for the rest of us...
FYI...
Later...
Peace...
