Question

i believe it is a choice. some people who are homeless have money but choose to live on the street with no responsibilities. some one or some thing has hurt them and they do not trust any one or anything so they choose to live on the street.

Homelessness, for the insane, is not a choice as it is unreasonable to consider them responsible for what they do.

Homelessness for the sane might be a choice. Some people choose not to become a wage slave in order to get money to give away to another man in order to live on this earth that rightfully belongs to God, not man.

There was a time, quite a while ago, in many lands, when the idea that man could own the land was considered sacrilegious. Then, it was impossible to be homeless because you could live on any piece of land that was not already occupied by another man.

But, that was then and this is now. Now, in our "civilized" society, all land "belongs" to some man or men. The vast majority of this already owned land is owned by men who live somewhere else. They do not need the land themselves to live on, or to farm on to feed their families. The land, for them, is a source of income.

To live on "their" land, you have to pay the owners some money. If you do not have enough money, and have no means to earn enough money, you will be homeless out of necessity not choice.

Even, if you own a car, you could still end up homeless because the rich men who own most of the land have influenced the politicians, whose re-election campaigns those rich men pay for, to pass laws making it illegal to live in your car, or sleep on a bench in a public park, or crash on the beach, etc.

American society considers you to be irresponsible if you do not line up with the other copper tops and agree to be a wage slave for the rest of your life in order to make enough money to pay to live on land which is more often than not owned by rich people who already have more money than they could hope to spend in one lifetime.

In this age, America does have homeless shelters where those without money to pay other men to live on God's land can get a roof over their head. But, I don't know if I would call that a home or a choice. In many ways, shelters are a peculiar sort of prison. To sleep there, you have to agree to be told what to do and where and when to do it. Also, they put you and your belongings out at dawn and you cannot come back until dusk. And, even then, America has far more homeless than shelters anyway.
Luke 9:58
And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

I did not encounter any homeless families in the shelter I volunteered with, that were there because they preferred being homeless.

I went to a shelter after being kicked out of my aunts house in the winter. It deffinitely was not a choice, it was a need.

For some people it may be a choice, but for others it isn't.

For most, it's a choice... depending on their lifestyle. Many of the homeless here in Midtown Detroit could've been in decent shape if they laid down the crack pipe back in the 80s. The economy doesn't help matters, but these are the same people that have been co-signing Rick James (Cocaine... it's a hell of a drug...) since the last time the Hawks were a LEGIT playoff contender.

However, when I lived in Alexandria, VA - in their shelter - there were nothing but working class people (and some families) that lived there. Some had cars... they just couldn't afford the astronomical cost of living in the Greater Washington area (the reason I came "back" to Detroit)

The drug addicted and mentally deficient homeless are lost souls, most of whom will never get their lives together. Being homeless is actually the least of their problems. The rest of the homeless, which happen to be the majority, are not that much different than you and I.

But, you and I have much more pressing concerns. How could you manage to get by if your primary source of income dissappeared? Give that a lot of thought because America is rapidly slipping into the worst depression in our history. A year from now, some of us will also be living in our cars ---assuming we can figure out a way to avoid losing our car as well as our home. I am not saying this as some kind of doomsday prophet. I am just calmly, rationally, drawing a reasonable conclusion based on where we were a year ago and where we are headed today.

The housing industry will continue to collapse. Gas and oil prices will continue to rise. And, more and more large corporations will continue to lay off thousands of people at a time. This is not a prophecy. It is guaranteed because _nothing_ is being done by _anyone_ that has _any_ chance of turning the American economy around.

Clearly, Obama/Hillary/MCain have no clue as to how to fix what is broken.

The federal reserve can not continue to keep bailing out the banks. At some point, USD _will_ collapse. There is no other possible outcome.

There is this young guy who wakes me up every morning by the loud roar of his big *** monster truck. Whenever I see him, it is just him or maybe one other person at most sitting in that big *** truck. And, the truck is always spotless clean --- not a speck of dirt or a dent or scratch anywhere. So, I know he didn't buy that big *** truck to haul stuff for work or to chauffeur around a herd of bebe's kids. It simply astounds me to think about how much money that guy pours into that big *** truck's gas tank every week.

That guy _IS_ America. We are like crack heads --- addicted to a lifestyle that is hopelessly irresponsible and CAN NOT be sustained indefinitely. At some point, the wide gaping mouth of karma WILL be filled.
