Building Black Business
I want to know who among us at least supports the notion of building a black business community (which is different from building black businesses). I'd also like to know what kind of businesses would you frequent and go just a little out of your way to support.
And, do you know of any black business groups in your area 'making moves'?

With a great deal of embarrasment ..
I cannot respond to this,
which for all of us and all of our futures,
in my opinion is the most important thread on this and any Pro Black board.
I sincerely hope folks will fill this one up day and night,
well into the New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately I am not apart of any of these organization, I do not own a business. Though I do buy Black at every chance. I think it is the responsibility of every conscious Black to own something and to support something owned by another Black. We must start here and instill it in our kids.

Afro-Saxon (cute)
I see that you think it is the responsibility of every conscious black [person] to own something . . does this refer to owning our own businesses, or simply owning something more tangible like land, housing, commercial real estate and/or investments?

Ownership of business obvious and real estate of course. But ownership of the environment or neighborhood more so. Of course that isn't simple nor do I have the answer. But when are able to exert political and economic control of our communities we will have greater say in our destiny's.

duly noted. . .
I'm not sure whether he agrees with me, i'm trying to flesh out the extents of his beliefs.
He said something about ownership and left it hanging, i'd rather get people to be specific about what they think and mean than think that they think what i think when i know what i think might be different from what they think. This will help me/us in the future to know when we disagree or agree instead of assuming more than we should.

I think you know what he was referring too, now don't you be "cute" ;)
My response was not thorough and I enjoyed trying to clarify it, this is what we are here for.

See Natirnr?
Not only did he agree with me, he extended what he was saying to owning the "neighborhood and environment". Which gives me an opportunity to explore further what he means by ownership of those things, how we can build it and etc.
I promise, just because you agree with someone from the outset, doesn't mean that there won't be a time and place where your opinions diverge. I am usually conscious of learning exactly where and why i agree and disagree with people. This is good intellectual exercise, and great for conversation and debate.
And also, i and AfroSaxon have had a few exchanges in other threads such that we agree on a few things . . so i replied to him as such because i knew that he would take it in stride and run with it as a preliminary 'feeling out' of how similar our beliefs are. I wouldn't have done the same with you as this is one of our first exchanges.
