Question Rosa Parks Living In Poverty

I was @ work last night and we got on the topic of Ms Parks and how she lives in poverty and how she almost got evicted. And this is a woman who helped pave the way for black people here in the U.S. And we have all these rich and sucessful black people and nobody has ever once out of the kindness of their heart helped her out financially...I know someone is gonna say how do you know that nobody hasnt helped her...well for one she wouldnt have been served an eviction notice...and now a white man will go down in history for giving Rosa Parks a place to live free until she leaves this world...I know these rich people have earned their money but come on what happened to Ms Parks is a disgrace to the black race...the bus that she sat on and refused to give her seat up was auctioned off last year and someone made millions off of it...but Ms Parks reaped none of those benefits either...'some' black people just don't stick together...why hasnt Oprah ever had Ms Parks on her show...giving her makeovers and donating stuff to her?? Why hasnt these rappers and singers ever donated her any money...why havent rich black NBA and NFL players ever gave to her out of the kindness of their hearts ? After all she did help stand up for our rights during the civil rights movement...

I think that maybe people didn't know she was "living in poverty". I know I didn't know (not that I am all up in the loop or anything).

And...I read in another thread about family members speaking out against the lawsuit against Outkast. I mean...if she was in poverty...her first help should have been these family members.

I know that in life...everyone can't be everywhere. This goes for multimillion dollar celebrities as well. They give to charities and have ones that are close to their hearts. Maybe this wasn't the one.

Peace,
tafui

Yeah, I agree with tafui, it is a 'lack of knowledge' that kept Mrs. Parks in these circumstances not a lack of good willed blacks arising to do something about it. More so, I think in the former article on Afrochat.news it was said, 'her church was paying the bills' or something to that effect.

Blacks need better PR among ourselves, that's the problem.

I read where she was facing eviction and then it was changed to her being able to live 'rent free.'

Yeah, it's enough to make your heart hurt and your mind to remain in a boggled state, but not everyone is aware of her plight and those who do know (and have money) might have helped in some way and it not be something that they wanted to make public knowledge.

After all, how would that look for the "Mother of the Movement" to be facing homelessness with so many of her people "living the life of Riley" ?

I feel that, yes, there are people who could have come to her rescue, but what I want to know is how it got to this point. What happen in between her stand and her being threatened with eviction? I guess it really doesn't matter, but I'm just saying it should not have gotten this far in the first place.
