You are far too emotional. What possible problem could I have with you?
You responded with a superficial post, I simply pointed it out.

Afrosaxon, Emotional.... .......me??? No problem, and it really isn't that serious with me as I still have love and respect for you and look forward to many more disagreements.........err...........oops I mean debates. So I'll respond to the comment you made about the Imus thingy being old and intellectually weak then. I'll agree with you - it is old. Please direct me to the section of the Afro Chat rules that entails where you can't reference things from our past in your posts or examples whether they are from the past in your posts and I will gladly delete that portion of my post. I knew we couldn't post threads that have already been posted as they will be deleted, but didn't know we couldn't reference anything from our past to list as an example. If that be the case, then you should have a problem with most posts in most threads as well - but it was just mine, huh. Interesting. I noticed though that you never said I was wrong in my assessment, just that it was old, which tells me a few things, but I will leave them out of this post. And advise what was superficial about my post? But, please...........direct me to this rule, will you?
Also, my comments weren't directed at Imus if you read it correctly - it was more so at Oprah and how NO ONE agreed with her until "AFTER" the Imus thing. My comments were geared more towards the lack of support of our own (Oprah), but so many speak of us not supporting each other. I was asking where was her support. I could list examples from my own community but you wouldn't know them from a fly on the wall.
Seems I must have struck a nerve or hit the nail on the head for you to take it as you did. If it doesn't apply to you, then why would it matter to you is all I'm asking. But in your defense, you have every right to state "YOUR" opinion as you have done.
But since you are in "need" of current affairs only - Cosby is currently going around to different cities regarding our communities. Some are saying he is a sellout or he is way off base, or that he shouldn't be putting our communities on blast in the media like that. He was in my town recently. Anyone care to jump on the band wagon and say that he is right, "BEFORE" someone of another race has to make us all sit up and think and finally agree with Cosby?

What do rules gave to do with anything? I said it was old, as it is, doesn't mean I said it shouldn't be posted.
I said an adult should know the difference between commentary and entertainment. Meaning your assessment was illogical at base and therefor needed to further comments.
I'm not Imus, nor a rapper, it's childish to believe people only respond to things that hit a nerve. People respond to posts for many reasons. Why would I be any different?
I care little about what Cosby is preaching, he is right about somethings wrong on others, I have better models for Black upliftment to follow. I'll let others be led by entertainers.
You proved people from other races dictate your views on your own.. i.e Imus, do not project that onto other Blacks, some of us have a sense of history, are literate and need no white man nor the mainstream media to be conscious.

We never really “listen” to each other. Example: Oprah has been saying for years that the lyrics in hip hop were degrading to women. But NO ONE listened to her and many rappers downgraded her. But low-and-behold old Imus call us the same thing Oprah spoke against, now it’s a problem? Why wasn’t it a problem when one of “our own” said we call women this but it had to come to a halt when the white man used it? But yet some speak of we don’t love our own or support our own. Where was her support? Oh, that’s right she’s not black enough. Senseless. Some think if we don’t wear our hair natural/locked/braided, sport African clothing, have African sounding names, and read African literature etc. then we aren’t African. If that be the case, then anyone can be African regardless of culture. You can’t “be” black by doing anything in the physical sense. Period.
It seems we only love our own when they agree with our agenda. But heaven forbid they have an opinion of their own or disagree with our ideals. Then they are no longer black or wanted in our communities. I will always love and respect – Condoleeza Rice, Colin Powell, Oprah Winfrey, Chris Rock, Tyra Banks, Bill Cosby, Obama, the Knowles Family and others. Now mind you I don’t always agree with their politics and/or the way they do things, but I can’t see me saying they aren’t a part of the African American Family. I have nothing but respect for these people – regardless of what others feel “I” should feel. I respect your decision to hate/dislike anyone you choose. That is “your” decision. But don’t chastise others just because their opinions don’t mirror yours to a tee.
Natirnr, With all due respect you have come across in some threads as one of the ones fanning the flames. From what I have seen, some have called you on it and for whatever reason you have chosen to ignore their humble advice. I guess if we want progress one should start with ones self - that includes heeding/following your own advice. Just "my" opinion.

I am new here and on one occasion I have been called a
"roach",
someone who is
"duped by Hollywood movies",
" pay him no mind"
etc.
Now is that humble advice?
Let us all be real clear about this , go to any Black newspaper, progressive radio, or televison program, read or listen to Francis Cress Welsing the late Amos Wilson, the recent speeches of Molefi Asante, Haki Matibuti, Marimba Ani, Chancellor Williams, Queen Afua, Ra Un Nefer Amen and other Afrocentric scholars and they will tell you that the Black community is in a decline,
I simply found it hard that anyone could state otherwise, and when I mentioned that,
I was accused of flaming,
I placed a chain of information and like a man apologized to the moderator and all concerned.
Now many folks on this board are members of one religion or another, some are atheist,
so to my understaning it is a cruel attack on someones belief system to talk about"
"rolling on the ground and foaming at the mouth"
, when I tried to use a comic jesture to flip the script on that remark I get ganged up on by 2 members.
So were is it that I am the initiator of flames when I try to defend myself from a beat down.
As I stated before when you look at the majority of my comments and the reason for my posts it is with a lot of thought and research and concen for all Black people that I make these statements, if some are not famiiliar with what i say or mention I will leave a link or a book, but in some instances folks shoud do thier homework and not take one or 2 words out of my comments out of context.
I am on several boards other then this one and relate views that I have discussed with folks from many political and activist organizations.
Now I wil wait and see!
will we as African folks continue to bicker amongst each other, or are we ready to create a better future for all Black folks across the globe and here!

Afrosaxon, Direct me to the line that says others dictate "my" views? In saying all of that was that a yes or no to my question? I guess you read those lines of my post that you wanted to read as I said you have every right to respond with "your" opinion? I never asked if you cared for Cosby, but what he was saying. However, you still manange to miss the overall point of my post - which was the main people that champion that we should support each other don't support their own themselves and are quick to banish people from our communities just becase we don't always agree. Eliminate, Imus, Oprah, Cosby and others from my comments if it bothers you that much - now would you agree with those statements? Probably not, as you avoided the overall meaning of my statements all together and just centered on Imus. Why not address the other portions of my statements? And if you have read my past posts you would know I am very aware that music is entertainment and most are in it to make money - lyrics have no bearing on our overall culture.
Again, you continue to prove my point in my original post as we can't ever have a discussion without somone saying that someone else doesn't have a sense of history simply because we disagree. Point proven.........as it always is.
But in keeping with my own advice that we don't listen to each other - I will put my opinion aside (for the moment anyway) and listen to what you have to say. Tell me, what is it you want to say and what is the answer for bettering our communities - old wise and knowledgeable one??? The floor is yours - I'm all ears.
