Megachurches: spreading the word or straight pimpin?

I attended a megachurch a while ago. I stopped going because it seemed that the pastor was more interested in what was in my pocket than he was in teaching the word. Every sunday he would recieve tithes, offerings, faith offerings and seed faith offerings. If the offerings were light the previous week he would announce it in church. This man who I will not name owns a fleet of expensive automobiles and several homes and businesses bought with church funds tax exempt. I'm no rocket scientist but back in uniontown alabama we call that good ole' pimpin. I understand that I may ruffel a few feathers with this thread but I would like to get some other opinions on this topic.

For me, when a man makes a financial enterprise pimpin any religion, it's no longer about the religion.

God's word doesn't require the material things that today's pastors covet and harvest.

its a new game to some of us but it's actually old. this has been going on for years.

believe me or not...there was a rumor in my family about my grandfather's brother, a pastor who spent years coning people out of their money and finally got caught in a bed with his pants down sexing a 15 yr old girl. and who caught him?....his wife.

I am not real fond of mega churches anyway, but even some of the smaller churches do the same thing.

Yeah the churches its more like a an auction site nowadays many Pastors stand in the altar calling people down wiht certain amount of money. It's a real shame but then again these people been part of the Church community since the beginning.

...Are you serious?! You know, I just don't recall Jesus or any of his followers doing this...

Jesus had to chase these salesmen out of the Temple because they turned it into a convenient market. To me anyone who put money before the Word isn't any different those who set up shops at the temple back then. Some Pastors literally have like half to hour asking for money, its like a bid war that set aparts the elite members from the poor ones it doesn't look good for the church that preaches against worldly material things.

Well. I'm one of those who realize it takes finances to keep a church, mosque, synagogue or even a teepee going. There are needs that someone has to contribute to...electricity, water, phone, supplies and such. That being the case, it's absolutely despicable when the purpose of a religious organization becomes raising money moreso than meeting the needs of the less fortunate.
