Phillie Murder rate, wassup???????
Whether we want to believe the statistics from the european media , there are numerous Black radio and print news, indicating the fratricide in Phillie is getting out of hand.
Recently we have heard about the horrors in Newark, NJ. There have been many articles expressing an outcry from the residence there, on Like it is With Gil Noble, and The Global Black Experience on WLIB and WBAI.
Are there any groups or organizations that we can support that anyone is aware of, that are trying to stem the tide of this fratricide, also do you think we need a national organization or think tank to deal with this issue state by state?

I've been following this issue for almost a year. In fact CNN did an in depth story on the crime there. It's so disheartening. It is not getting out of control. It is and has been out of control for some time now. I know there are many grass roots efforts to attempt at curbing community violence around the country. However, I'm not sure of any individual state sponsored think tanks. I do know that there are think tanks around the country that pontificate about solutions with no real plan of implementation or pathway to success.
I'll look into it further to see what I can come up with. Did you have anything specifically in mind?

we have a black mayor. he is corrupt and incompetent. we have a black police chief. he is incompetent. we have a white racist DA. we have extreme poverty brought on by all of our industry shipped out to Asia. we have multiple brand new state of the arts sports areas for all our teams. we have not one new school. there is extreme shift in cash flow, some are very rich, most are very poor. there is NO education. and everybody got a gun. as an older person, i lock it down at dark and do not go out until next day.
that's why i can stay on line. i am afraid to go outside.

I heard Philly has been off the hook all year. And I thought I had to watch myself in DC.

James, from your perspective having lived there for some time, what is the one thing needed most in the immediacy,to try and restore a sense of normalcy?...I know it's relative...but normalcy for what you all would perceive it to be.

jobs, most young black males have no hope. the streets is the only option for them. nobody thinks in terms of being productive. everybodys tryin to be a hustler. we need jobs and we need education. even the hope of it would be good. brothers need to have something they can look forward to.

james. how long have you been living there? can't you move somewhere else?
but then again i see where you're coming from. my grandma lived in her place every since we were babies. there was drug lords on the right and gang fights on the left. she had her gun by her bed every day. she even carried it to church. it didn't matter to her.
i can imagine the feeling when getting up every morning trying to muster up the strength and praying to God, that he would help you make it home in one piece.

Wow...seems like a state of despondency. Too bad the multitudes were slipping when outsourcing became the norm for American businesses.

James - I lived in Philly from 87-93 and went to Temple, and it saddens me that this city, that my grandmother still lives in and raised her family (my father) has eroded into this. I haven't been back since 2001 and honestly, living up here in the PNW has spoiled me and I haven't heard much about this, probably because I just haven't seen it on the news, but I haven't been looking for it. How Bad Is It? and is it primarily in the poor areas of Philly proper, or does it spread to the outlying areas as well?
