Why I love AfroChat but get mad sometimes.

I dig any place online with Black conversation on a wide variety of topics from a wide demographic of folks. Let me add the disclaimer - reasonably intelligent conversation. To me, that does NOT mean that folks will not be opinionated, that folks will not disagree, that folks won't say some of the most outlandish ish you think you ever heard - all that is what grown folks do so it's just a part of how the flow goes. I just started back up in here and I like what I've seen and like being around here. I am a person who runs through many sites but truly only hangs out and becomes family to very few - because the fit has to be right. I like freedom to express. I like drama-free dialog - even if it's spirited. Even if it's debate. I like moderators that do their job but don't try to micro-manage and censor everything THEY don't like. I dig a wide spectrum of topics. I see that yall have a large tank of members so you must be doing something to keep folks coming so I applaud that.

I'm still debating how to handle this need. There is a new articles mod that I'm evaluating to see if it's worth installing. The problem is that I don't want to make the same mistakes as before; installing mods that the programmers stop supporting.

Stay tuned, I'll come up with something.

Give yourself a fair amount of participation before you rush to judgment. You will find that with over 100,000 posts, your assertions are, respectfully, way off base and a slap in the face to all of us that act as adults and dare to actually post good content and participate in the community.

One more suggestion: Start threads that YOU would be interested in discussing. No one's stopping you from opening up some threads on whatever issues or interests you have. Most members here found AfroChat searching for a subject and NOT a messageboard. Yet, in their search results they found us. I'm not going to give up my trade secrets of how we show up so well in search engines, but point is, you were most like brought here because you were searching. Now you are here. Help us build and not destroy.

"Builder or destroyer?" You can't be serious ... anyway, your response to my post serves as a wonderful case in point. I say something that is my opinion, which is what your site is SUPPOSED to laud, and that opinion doesn't sit well with you so now I'm trying to "destroy" something. Continue checking your administrative protocols to see if you ever see a post from me again - not likely. And by the way, it hasn't been a handful of posts upon which I have BASED my opinion ... just the ones like yours.

Your the administrator - do me and everyone on your site a favor ... remove me from membership post haste.

If you have an issue with me, let's discuss it via PM. I've been running this board and others for years; so I'm pretty good at spotting the different user types, no disrespect intended.

I don't want to turn this into a back and forth with you on this. Yes, your opinion is appreciated, but that doesn't mean I don't have a right to call you on it. You want to sit here and criticize others, yet when it's turned in your direction, now it's unfair?!

Exactly why I joined AfroChat in the first place---because the "builders" & "destroyers" were clearly defined.

It seems to me that you intend to keep this forum as positive as humanly possible, Brother DBlack...give or take the random friendly disagreement.

And it sometimes feels as if there are few places in Amerikkka (either online or in the "real world") where we can just be OURSELVES. For many of us, AfroChat is just this kind of sanctuary.

I'm honored and very happy to hear that Celeste. It's unfortunate that there will always be a very small group of individuals that want others to hold on to the bondage of divisiveness, and destruction, because that's what works in their world.

But often, what we, as a people deal with in the real world, we have to deal with here.
