Boys Learn Disrespect For Women At Home

Check out one of my essays from my upcoming third book Let's Talk Honestly Volume 3

BOYS LEARN TO DISRESPECT WOMEN AT HOME!
BY George Cook www.letstalkhonestly.com email letsbook@aol.com

Now before I begin let me say that a major part of this is on black men but as we all know there are many black men not in their children's homes on a daily basis which is a damned travesty and African American men have to do better when it comes to helping raise their children.

I would also be remiss not to mention rap music's effect on our children and it's negative portrayals of black women.

But I would also then be wrong not to mention something that is seemingly ignored in this discussion. Although they are negative messages in rap music fore our little boys to take that garbage to heart means those images are being reinforced in real life...AT HOME.

These boys are seeing there mothers and sisters using men to pay bills, drinking, smoking weed, cursing, and doing other classless behaviors and while they may never call their family members a bitch or a "ho" they are thinking it and it makes it much easier to disrespect women they don't even know.

I think that single mothers have to realize that there negative behaviors also affect there boys just as much as their girls. I mean if a boy doesn't respect the women in his household why would he respect any women outside of it?

LET'S PUT OUR CHILDREN FIRST

I agree but that can be said for a lot of negative behavior. If the behavior wasnt learned at home, then respect or positive behavior surely wasnt enforced in the home.

true, but that is often said, but what glc is saying is something that you normally don't hear. it seems to have some logic to it so i think it would be interesting to see were this discussion goes.

I understand you. But thats kind of what I was trying to say. Young girls can see their mothers getting beat and think its ok for a man to abuse them. The positive behavior and/or respect wasnt enforced at home. Or a girl can see her father dating/sleeping with multiple women and think that monogamy is useless. Or teach them not to trust men.

That's very true n' often overlooked in discussions such as these. But that's also something you see more w/children outside our race. Our children generally tend to bend one way or the other n' it's painfully obvious what the problem is; no home training or lack of it. As GLC said, our boys see mom n' sis. sleepin' w/half the block, exchanging partners, callin' themselves bitches n' ho's...how can you possibly expect lil' man to have any respect whatsoever for our women? You can't.

But that still doesn't sum it all up. What sums it all up is us. "Men". We're the inhumane assholes not only leaving behind the one's who've given birth to our children but also the children themselves. It baffles n' eludes me as to why/how a person can leave behind, forget, n' not give a damn about their own flesh n' blood.

Exactly and that is just bad parenting. I don't care where a behavior was learned it's our job as parents to say "No, that's not acceptable" and then to hold a child accoutable for his/her actions.

No doubt many childsren do this, hell I;m sure many of us did but there is a line a well raised child wont cross in most cases regardless of what his/her friends do because messages from parents do stick if instilled early on

Because these so called men were raised without real male role models and they saw it as the norm for men to just leave their families, hell it happened to them. We as men have to step up and resume our place in our children's lives are our prisons will just become more and more full everyday
