James, from the initial posting of this thread, "we hear you. You have voiced your discontent." I have a better suggestion--brotha, why don't you share YOUR definition of class with us? I am sincerely interested in hearing your spin on it please. Thanks.

in dress, class is separate from style.
to me it has more to do with the coordination of the clothes and accessories.
you can sag with class and you can pull your pants up without it.

i saw wil smith walk through the food court were i eat recently. i immediately thought "he dresses nice" he had on jeans and boots. they were of superior quality and i could see that from 10 meters. he had no security and he was moving fast. no one else even noticed him but i did.

when i worked in corporate i wore suits and ties.
now that i am retired i wear jeans, tees and hoodies.
i wear a moderate sag. mostly state property, roca wear and lots of girbaud.
does this mean that i no longer have any class? i don't think so.

my clothes are clean, coordinated and of fine quality.
what more am i supposed to do?

it seems to me that what has been going on here is a put down of ghetto style in favor of corporate style.
i think that is invalid and a waste of time.

No, what I am saying is that the way these ghetto styles are being worn by some of us lacks any elegance or dignity. It has nothing to do with the name brand. If you read the past posts you would know that we are not talking about you, you don’t wear your pants down around your knees.

To me, showing your rump b\c your pants is down around your knees is not elegant or dignifide. You having worked in corporate America know full well that these companies will not accept this kind of dress to represent them. I’m an electrical engineer; and when I go to meetings or job sites I have to represent my company, I have to represent me, I have to represent my race b\c I know all eyes are on me and how I carry myself. I have yet to see another black engineer in my area so I have to make it so the one that comes behind me will be taken seriously. I have a tough time as it is being accepted as the person who electrically designed their property.

And you’re right, it would be a waste of time also hypocrisy along with being unrealistic if we said blacks had to dress in a corporate manner. No one does it; I know i don't

Very true. 'Specially the part on class being seperate from style, which may have goten a bit mixed up on this thread. I do know folk who rock a slight to moderate sag n' it doesn't look too bad. Their yit be fresh n' clean so it's all good. Another important point is that most of those saggers you'll never see pullin' their pants up b/c they know how ridiculous n' stupid that looks. Then you got these cats who got their yit fallin' 'round their ankles with all of their under garments showing n' lookin' at you like it would make their day if you frowned your face at them. Those are the mo' fo's I was referring to in my 1st reply. Those are the cats that need to show just a little more class n' rep. themselves just a little better.

I disagree. In saggin I was not referring to any named brand of clothing. I actually rock a lot of Roca Wear myself. I'm not referring to any type of dress. I'm not even saying wear your pants tight and looking for a flood cuz my pants are baggy too. I'm talking about dudes walking around showing me their fuggin drawz. What's up with that???? Last time I checked it was called "UNDERwear" for a reason. It's trifling IMO for a male to walk around with his pants hanging past his drawz in front of other men (kinda gay if you ask me) and just down right disrespectful to do it in front of children and women. I wish a son of mine would do it. (Hopefully by then this will be played out) He'd spend the next day trying to figure out if the drawz go on his behind or on his head. Everyone has their own ideas about class, I'll admit that cuz I know I'm not on the same page with everybody when it comes to the subject. But something just shouldn't be debatable. Underwear should be worn inside of pants, covered by said pants. Not out for everybody and their grandmama to see.

I know a lot of men who rock a slight sag and it looks nice on them. I personally dont mind especially when their clothes are clean and neat (i.e. creased pants)

I think it starts looking tacky when your pants drop right below your ***.

I agree. Its very tacky past your *** and no one wants to see the crack of anyones ***. Very trifling and I wont even touch on the gay part

*gay alarm*

good point. White boys sag all the time. The other day me and my partner went out to eat and while we were waiting for our table a white boy walks into the restaurant with his pants hanging off his ***. He had the nerve to have a shirt that only went to his waist cause he wanted to make sure that everyone could see how dirty his drawz was. It was not cute, but this is his form of "self-expression". Not cute no matter how you spin it.

And what about these young girls(of all races & ethnicities) who are running around with their g-strings and thongs hanging out they pants?

On another note, Samoon you state that black people need to effect change. I am just wondering what this change would look like to you? what/who would it include or not include?
