I know white america likes to pit Light skinned blacks against Dark skinned blacks,then again we also do it to ourselves. So normally when I see a survey or some research on the topic I like to read and try and understand why we can't see that we're one people. This particular bit of research caught my eye mostly because it moved beyond the normal light skin is pretty mumbo jumbo. It dealt with life situations and how a person's skin tone, (not just their skin color)can effect their employment. Just to put my two cents in, jobs should be given on qualifications and not for any other reason.

Sad, but true. I've had family members to point this out with a couple of jobs I have had. They said notice that your employer only hires "light skinned" blacks. I hadn't really noticed until they mentioned it. At one place they had a point - no dark skinned blacks had ever worked there even till this date and I haven't been there in 10 years.

Even my present employer they pointed this out. I said with this one we do have one who is a friend of mine. They said of course they are going to throw in the "token." They said even the guys who work in our supply room and maintenance are "light skinned". I guess I really hadn't noticed.

But I also live in the South, so we are about 50 years or so off schedule from the rest of America in regards to race. I do believe that geographical location plays a part in this as well as in the north it is not as rampant.

This is ridiculous and though I sometimes wonder if it will ever end, it probably won't. All this light vs. dark issue will always put a rift between some of us. It will always perpetuate the stereotypes as well. Not only among us as Black people, but among other races, too.

I want to say and,,,ie to all of this,but it is a sad fact that we cannot just be BLACK! When will be able to go beyond this and get to the matter of working from the inside out. That is being the best individual that you can be,and then finding a like minded mate,and instilling positive values to any children you have,and then going beyond the selfishness of self,and helping and teaching your community and building something for other blacks.

Light,white dark blue,it does not matter,because we have a wooden leg as far as society goes two if you're a female black. You can and must overcome all of it,and by the way pull someone else up also.
