Black Leaders

My mama said that when she was younger her aunt used to tell her that there will never be another great leader after Martin and Malcom. This always stuck in my brain and then was revisited when I was watching tv one night and came upon a John Henrik Clarke lecture...He basically said the same thing my mama said...it made me wonder...where are today's "black leaders" really leading us????

Can u paraphrase Dr. Clarke's words?

Anyway, imo, Rev. Dr. MLK, Jr. was not a "great leader" as he was a great speaker. And one of my first leaders, Malcolm X was slained bfore his leadership was manifest.

We as a people have many former leaders to study for leadership abilities. Much depends on what the people lead are shooting for. Example, imo, of a great leader? Kwame Nkrumah, the first Afrikan President of modern day Ghana. He led his people to liberation from the yokes of European/Amerikkkans/French & German oppressions. BTW, Kwame Nkrumah studied here in america as a young college student... and debated Dr. Clarke many times; who himself was/is a leader in formulating African Studies in this country. We most definitely can learn from his example and works.

I meet many of our young people, females and males, who show potential. They must somehow spark our ancestral memories to support them.

Leaders are not leaders without his or her people's loyal support.

I think that since we are disperced throughout every section of society, it is very hard for any leader to "gather the masses" and get them to work toward a common goal. Due to this, any leader would find it damn near impossible to move black people to a different plateau in history.

Too many times we look for "leaders" that are public figures, I somewhat agree with soulbrotha, the masses are spread out...BUT in each community we have enough positive brothas and sistas to lead the particular community. I think starting out in our own communities first is very important because these community leaders, when tasked to be on a grander scale will know the wants and needs of each black community.

To the degrees that we are dispersed in the land is the same degree that our youth will remember who they are where they came from what was done and moreso what there is still yet to do. That is if those who still have "a Black people" sensibility and consciousness do our parts.

"Endless our struggles must seem to those whose vision reaches only the end of today."
