BET Awards 08
Did you catch the BET Awards last night?
Overall, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The past few years have been comical, and not in the good way. We did still have to endure were those corny pre-nomination skits with the presenters...WHO WRITES THAT MESS? On the positive, most of the performances were top notch, notably Chris Brown for that crazy water effect and Alicia Keys bringing out the girls-groups from the day, and no doubt...Rev. Al Green. Good job BET, it's good to see things moving forward and upward. |

We recorded it on the DVR last night so I guess we'll catch it in spurts once we decide to watch it. Heard it was pretty good though. I missed it cause Hells Kitchen is my number 1 show and I like Chef Ramsey!!!
I heard that Mr. Crybaby Kanye won an award and he didn't cause a big fuss. So I'm thinkin' to myself he didn't get angry at the world because he didn't win anything and that's one reason why the show was nice.

I don't mean to be too critical here, but I've got to keep it real.
I love award shows and love to see black folks any chance I can on TV or in the theater. However, I was very disappointed with this year's BET award show. I'll just mention a few items that stood out for me. I didn't think DL was the best host, especially with his dry humor about Marvin Sapp's name--his jokes sometimes fell flat and he zoomed so quickly along. I was shocked at Keisha Cole's performance: Did she forget the lyrics? What was up with her voice? It seemed like she half sang the song. That girl can normally SANG. I couldn't understand anything Young Jeezy and Kanye said and I also couldn't really hear the music. Miss Keys tried, but was not up to the standard that I'm used to seeing from her. It seemed like Jill Scott wasn't really feeling what she was singing like I'm used to seeing. And Al Green, he was one great King of R&B, and I really wanted to hear him sing, but he kept letting the audience sing. I found the best performance of the night to be Rihanna. Her voice came through in good tone and quality, loud and clear and she looked gorgeous. However, her song sounded like pop music. It will be great to see some new old school style singers come to the forefront, who can really make a live concert worth attending. Amazing things are done in studios these days, but where are the people who can sing and make you feel chill bumps? People like Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, R. Kelly and Musiq Soulchild never go out of style. Oh well, maybe next year. I'll tune in as always. |

I am actually in agreement with the previous poster, was quite a dissapointment, Im just now realizing it but yeah Jill Scott was a lil lukewarm when she's usually H.O.T.!! Rihanna's voice was actually good but her performance was B.O.R.I.N.G. Yeah and Keyshia Cole sounded pitiful....and what was with the sporadic dance moves?...she should have just sang and let the background dancers handle that. I enjoyed Maxwell and Anthony Hamilton.....I never thought D.L. Hughley was funny and last night just proved why...the gospel segment was so out of place it was just awkward....and ciara's performance with Chris Brown was so unnecessary....I didnt see Usher but I heard he lip synced his whole performance....BADLY...AH WELL.....I havent been a fan of B.E.T. for quite some time so Ill just know better next time....

Corey got kicked off of Hell's Kitchen. As far as the awards, I thought it was better than it has been, but not good. I hated DL as a host. He's not funny and NOBODY laughed at his jokes. I think Keyshia's issue is the fact that she's not conditioned to dance and sing. She got tired REAL quick and that's because of her dancing and oversinging the song. I thought the best performances was Ne-Yo, T-Pain, and Alicia Keys. Kanye did get his little award but he was still Kanye by saying, "I'm a King in the game right now and my opinion counts." Kanye is such a female. I've never seen a man so emotional and so wrapped up in what other people think about him. Rihanna has a beautiful voice, but there was no need for her performance. Chris Brown's performance was prettty good minus Ciara, but she's still a great dancer. The nominations were a joke especially with Missy winning. Overall it was aight!

I watched it and it was aiiight! it was not that entertaining for me. There were a few performers though that i really enjoyed. (neyo, chris brown, al green)
Usher... not that big of a deal his performance was nothing to gasp about Keyshia... Love her, but she screams too much Alicia.. the best part was the girl groupls.. love them all (especially TLC) I can't remember any one else. |
