I heard you Jimihaze.

Clearly, human-induced global warming is real. Climate change is a huge problem, as it threatens our health, farms, forest, lakes, and animals. Western policy makers, corporations, and bureaucrats are consumed with greed, power, and living in the now.

I wouldn't doubt that most of these people are already in midlife to elder in age, and are not genuinely concerned about the future of the planet. They are concern about living it up NOW. If burning of fossil fuels, pumping oils into the seas, and deforestation will get them more money and power that’s exactly what they will continue to do.

For westerner’s it’s about preserving a lifestyle at any cost. But there will be no life if we don’t take care of the planet. People tend to want to write this stuff off like it’s so distant or unlikely. But I’m sure the Tsunami, mudslide, flow, and drought victims would attest to its realness.

That is why it behooves the young generation to be concern and to take action by voting environmental unconscious politicians out of office, and not supporting corporations that pollute our planet. But that will call for some sacrifice of which most people will not do because they don't see the seriousness of it. Yet.

Global warming is a nasty problem I think it is a combo of things that are pushing it but humans are the ones setting the pace. For people to doubt that to me is insanity there are six billion of us factories cars blah blah blah.

The one thing I think alot of these "3rd world countries" have over us, is that when the warming kicks in and starts messing places up they will be able to recover more easily and with less money.

Who knows maybe it will start raining all the time in Africa.

You probably right MIM. They would likely adjust their lifestyles better than us too. Westerner’s are spoiled. It would turn chaotic here if a cataclysmic event hit and caused us to be without our modern appliances for any length of time. I noticed one time the lights when out on our block. Folks were coming out of their homes looking terrified wondering what happened; me included. We didn’t have electricity for 2 hours. I was livid.

^^ It's true thrid world countries may recover more quickly.Unfortunatly our bad habits are destroying thier enviroments. I saw a couple of months ago a small island that was slowly being destroyed by the effects of global warming caused by other countries. I don't remeber the specifics but most of the island people were leaving due to some issues caused by other countries.

One thing this crisis has surely revealed: We (humans) don't know enough about the workings of Nature to be Earth Stewards. Our grasp of technology has rushed to some people's heads and they are moving ahead without regard to long-term consequences.

There's no doubt, at this point, that human activity has caused some of the destruction We are witnessing. Nature is a complex set of principles that operates without fail, without fluctuation, without flaw. And We are all paying for the deeds of a few — those who have held the power to act in our names.

Such is the rhythm of cause-effect-result, a cycle We are not yet living in harmony with.

Interesting that this thread was started three years ago... this January in Chicago we saw 60 degree weather and Baghdad saw snow.

Definitely a man-made condition.

I have 2 beliefs as to what's going on. Can't nobody tell me our government don't have something that can control the weather. I believe that's got alot to do with what's going on. The number 1 reason is the extraction of all the oil. The oil is in the earth for a specific reason. Look at your car, if you don't have any oil in it it won't run same thing with earth, you taking all the oil out and it's not gonna run right.

Unmentioned Factors

How much energy does it take to manufacture a car?

To melt the steel and aluminum and glass?

So if the cars only last 150,000 miles but they know how to make cars last 500,000 miles or 1,000,000 miles then how much unnecessary pollution is being created. They talk about pollution from driving cars but not about pollution from MAKING CARS.

The economists don't talk about what we lose on the depreciation of the cars either. When was the last time you heard about mandatory accounting?
