Woman Orders Clone of Beloved Dog for $150K

A California woman has placed the first order for a cloned dog with South Korean biotech firm RNL Bio, pledging $150,000 for a genetic duplicate of her dead pitbull, Booger, who once saved her from a dog attack, reports the BBC. Seoul National University scientists, who produced the first cloned canine in 2005, will use tissue from Booger’s ear. • It’s the first time a dog has been cloned for commercial use. The company says it can produce 30 dogs a year but expects to be able to deliver 200 a year by 2010, dropping the price as cloning technology improves to less than $50,000 per puppy. The Korean Customs service is planning to order cloned drug-sniffing dogs from RNL.

Ok, a couple of things:

- One, $150,000 could do a lot for a lot of people... and we're living in a world where someone has it at their "disposal" to re-create a darn dog? (if I'm insensitive, I apologize...never owned a dog...)

- Secondly, what happens if this dog gets loose, mates with another REAL dog? Are we starting a new breed of "genetically modified/cloned" dogs??

Do you see something wrong with this picture, or is it just me?

well maybe just humans before all that...then gremlins. whichever takes more money to create.

What does that verse in the Quran say in the chapter about the people of the cave. If there was 2 of them the 3rd was a dog, if there was 4 of them the 5th would be a dog. lolol

I don't think we will ever realize the importance of dogs to europeans.

This is truly amazing but not surprising to me.

I guess not. I'll never let a dog sleep in my bed and freakin' lick me in the mouth... and they wonder why they have fleas, I mean, lice, and are kings of cold sores and such.

1. It is her money. And if she used $150K to paint her house green with pink polka-dots, that is her right to do so. How do you know she does not donate money already to causes that help people that are not empowered?
2. If the dog mates with another dog the only thing you would get is another dog or nothing because the cloned dog could be sterile.
3. No, I see nothing wrong with this picture.
