It will always be hard to deny science because of the evidence of how we have evolved as human beings that have been explored in musuems and so forth. With religion, its more so a human belief but I feel it is needed because of what how we ourselves maintaining in life. Both a relevant and needed in society. As long as they have a positive affect on our society, I see no harm in them both co-existing. I think its more so a problem when you take the two and twist into something very awkward and weird. To the point where its a thing of cult status and maybe misinterpreted information that no one can really gather.

These are Astrological dates that have been practiced for millenniums in Africa.
Astrological phenomena: Observing seasonal changes in the environment i.e. plants, animals or human.

African Starlore: SAAO

Spirits can not be explained easily to one who is not sensitive to them, but they are manifestations of thoughts. They can appear in dreams, through meditation and vocalize a warning, all of which I have experienced. Ancestors or recently passed relatives will appear in dreams to let you know that they are O.K.

Premonitions: Feelings of impending events through dream state or impulse

Taboo and Rituals: Based on the result of some distant event that has caused calamities. For example in our burials the body is laid in the ground and covered with a blanket, icansi (mat) and sticks of wood to keep the spirit in place. After the funeral we all go back to the home of the deceased, wash our hands together and enjoy a feast. These things are done to keep the spirit from causing havoc to the living.

Deities: These are the founders of new schools of thinking or great leaders who were unique in their insight.

All together they represent a cultural view of life. All religions are derived from a cultural frame of reference and can be traced back to a particular nation. Based on generations of acceptance, these beliefs become what is today called religion. Although some events might be explained in a more reasonable manner, people still tend to hold on to the past. There are limitations in their thinking and expressing ideas in clichés because sound bites, poems etc. are easier to remember. The unknown is explained and accepted relative to a person’s level of knowledge. Religion can be positive or negative i.e. Judaism. The Hebrews, being scribes have maintained certain principles over millenniums and are successful because of the principles not the rituals. The principles are thrift, brotherhood, merchandising, education, law, medicine and science. It goes without saying that as scribes they also control dialog (media). All of these things are positive for anyone to practice but theirs is bound in book form as sacred writings (Torah) and the practices carried out religiously. Their success lies in their ability to manipulate others while maintaining their culture. This has has proven to be successful because it is enshrined in "sacred texts". Even though history tells us that our ancient ancestors created the sciences that the Hebrew culture practices, the stories place them at the center of creation. Therefore myths coming out of biblical text is a reflection of their ingenuity in propagating their "chosen people" status.

A teacher once said that evolution leaves room for religion but in religion there is no room for evolution.

A very interesting read. From my quote are you in agreement or did you want me to explain in greater detail?

Science versus Religion

I understand your premise and agree that religion tends to blur the line between myth and reality but there are components within theology that are based on logic. You are a thinker and a positive force continue to question until you come up with answers. I believe intelligence is rewarded by adding to our collective wisdom.

They believed that something ultimately did control all of this, something much more powerfull then these aspects of nature.

They realized that all of this was apart of something greater and consumated a "whole"; They took the pieces of the whole and began to study it and then reconnect it back with the whole. This is science and ultimately how they came to a conclusion of an all powerfull force we now know of as "God."

You cannot separate science from "God" and really make any kind of sense.
100% correct. It's nice to know they are others out there. :)

Science and Religion can, indeed, be compatible... but they are not always interchangeable or in agreement.

Science is based on methodical inquiry, research, and experimentation. Religion (not to be confused with spirituality) is based on faith, revelation, and prophesy.

Science and Religion both recognize and acknowledge the greater workings of complex principles, laws, and relationships beyond human control or human understanding. Yet, both Science and Religion have reached differing conclusions about certain fundamental questions (e.g., Is there a God?).

The Universe has always existed... it is eternal (no beginning, no ending).

Questions of Creation vs. Evolution are moot, meaningless, and misplaced when it comes to understanding the "origin" of the Universe.

I believe that science [skyence] is not only related to religion but math and by science and math is time divided and measured. When you can measure time, you can apply history and the events of the past to points in time and verify truth or lies. I love this post.

Personally, I don't see how the two can be compatible. Scientific evidence points to evolution as a truth and that the world is millions of years old, which is contrary to biblical text and judeo/christian beliefs. Despite my upbringing, I am an atheist- I have honestly never felt the presence of god. I respect the beliefs of those who do believe, but to me it's still contrary to the evidence that's out there.

I'm black and I'm an atheist. We're not all white. And how can atheism be flawed? Atheists simply don't believe in the supernatural.
