I do find that offensive as ya'll may know from that N-word thread...and I also commend you for not allowing it... But to play " Devil's advocate"..UGH..
How do you know that user wasn't using that stupid moniker "whyte Ni@@a 675" username as a term of endearment..I mean from that thread..many for it posters were asking what harm or power does that N-word take away from blacks...(if you know who you are inside as a person type excuse)
Again,I don't deviate in my stand Whyte_Ni@@a is offensive to peeps who detest the N-word,like me....That N-word to me is one of the most offensive self deprecating words that I CRINGE when we use it to ourselves..But maybe this User was reading that thread..and decided to "show me.Curious1" how it can be used as an endearing term like some in that thread were saying..Maybe this user was trying to be Down with Blacks and Cool..used the term of endearment cool Hood " GA ending meaning" and not the "GER ending.." The Black meaning and connotational context of Ni@@A..street use vs Ni@@er..racial slur..Again,To Me a Ni@@A ..Ni@@er..by any other word is still a Ni@@a -a racial slur..Just to me..I can't understand the difference at all..when used amongst some Blacks and other races who hang with Blacks and are allowed to call their Black friends " Whtye,Latino,Asian Ni@@a to run of the mill ole' Homie My Black Ni@@a"
Again,I detest Nword in PRINT,In PICTURES and by word of Black mouth and now Cyberspace..it is a hate word..but others may feel it is only a term of endearment;that on a Black Forum of Mostly Black or Down with Black peeps.."We" would understand" this User using his screen moniker in the BlackLove connotation...brother to brother..mano y mano..ya think??
Curious1..just Curious ..hhmmm..Oh snap, wait a minute..maybe you banned because they said White?? and maybe the Ni@@a part of his name was cool?? now that I think about it...

I'm totally down with the rule....there's no need for inappropriate names.

Curious, thanks for your interesting perspective on this issue. While the debate on the N word is and excellent topic, and is certainly worthy of debate, as administrator, some choices are not. While my opinions on the N word is that ultimately it's unharmful, I still feel it's inappropriate as a label or alias. Because in that context it is inappropriate to me. And even if I didn't feel that way, enough people in the community, as well as external members feel it is inappropriate. How many people you know have a first name of '******'? U Feel Me?
In the case of names, I just feel that there are too many choices for a resident to use, and a name is a label. I find it unacceptable to use a name that many will find innapropriate, offensive or devisive. That's not to say it's not a great debate subject, but I have to establish rules that are consistent with the direction and vision of the community as well considering the manageability of such rules when the boards have many many more users.
Impression is everything as you may have heard, and frankly, mature adults don't find it challenging to pick an alias that's unoffensive, unique, beautiful, and creative.
From names like OOOHoney, SlickBitty, MochaMami33 to ladyBug, Curious1, PhilMoslim, Blak, JamieC, etc....
Let's face it. These and all the hundreds of aliases on this board are beautiful indeed. And I simply want to keep it that way.

how is "inappropiate names" defined and by who?
the administrator alone?
If so, is it possible to run say a poll for members to consider then vote yea or nay 'bout a particular word?

The Staff makes that determination. However if there are any names that the commmunity does not want used as a name, you can head up that department, get back to me, and I will add them to the banned list.
