Through the Looking Glass
I looked through the looking glass
And what did I see?
I saw a beautiful black woman
Staring back at me
With tired eyes
Filled with beautiful dreams
Filled with love and understanding
and clarity of what serenity means.
I saw hair all grey
From years of strife
But each strand revealed strength
From a fulfilling life.
I saw lips that curled into a smile
as the sadness would fade
As she remembered her journey
and the friendships she made
So I studied her face
Filled with lines of age
And I saw wisdom, courage
She is a compassionate Sage
So I turned from the looking glass
Rubbed my eyes that I could see
This beautiful black woman
Has turned out to be
Me.
