Daddy & His Daughter

From the first seconds I held her in arms.
A well of tear poured forth.
This small being by God was given to me.
To protect, instruct, correct constantly.
On that spring afternoon,
my mind and life changed.
From dime bags to diaper bags.
From fifths to formula.
A little girl made a man,
I promised her to do the best I can.

10 years later,
the love is much greater.
I been few places on this side of the equator.
Beheld carribean mountains
and deep blue seas.
Nothing is more beautiful to me.
Watching her pull up on tables,
to hearing "dad dee"
I cry all over again.
Fatherhood has surely blessed me.

As a man,
I want her to see.
What a real man is supposed to be.
I'm giving her a reference to go by.
I show her its more to man than dressing fly.
I lay hands on her,
pronouce the blessings,
Speak life into her life,
and pray for peace in all our stressings.

So as long as the Lord
gives me breath to breathe.
You will see her and me.
