Go find yourself an old skool cd and see what I mean. No comparison from the then music to the Now.

YES!!!! I'm 23, and love the classics. There are a few "ok" songs but for the most part....garbage

You all know I love me some classics too...but my question is why is everyone bashing my generation. No one mentioned Lupe Fiasco or Kayne West, etc. They are not in 'our' age group but they are very much apart of our generation. I am just sick of everyone bashing us like we could never be as good ...could we at lease get a pat on the back for making a name for ourselves so young in the game? (<---oh yes, I did it, lol)
Thats all Im saying...

there is a reason
We grew up with all kinds of music but Motown was king when I was a teen. My peers pushed me into dancing and chasing girls. My first day in college began with a dance and chasing more girls. Then the jazz door opened, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and others came in. While my cohorts slung the names around to show they were hip, cool or what ever, I actually listened and liked what I heard. These took the time to learn music and didn't play for "pimpin the dime". Record companies are pushing the degraded messages disguised in a drum beat and folks are forking over the dough like druggies. If this is culture, we are doomed. I don't want to be tribal in a mindless way or dance while you tell me lies and steal my dignity.

Every older generation bashes the younger because the younger didn't turn out they way they hoped.....yeah selfish thinks of past people.
Much of the music today is trash because people who know nothing about good music is involved the the making of the mainstream sound. Lupe is one of my favorite artist the reason why people bash him is because he is very different from the normal artist and many people don't get it, hence the song "Dumb it Down"
I really can care less who anyone bashes my generation because basically they have to deal with us taking over which is what we are doing today.
Soon enough I will be complaining about my daughters music bobbing my head to The Roots telling her "Now that's real MUSIC Baby not that whosit you listen to"

This generation music deserves bashing. It is plainly, wack. We have good artist but no one comparable to Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder etc. Today's music is much simpler, even those heralded as complex are far simpler than the older artist

Yes I saw that "Dumb It Down" by Lupe... I felt my eyes water because I loved that song so much. Lol, okay It seemed a little to dramatic.
Im sure no one else in this thread did *CLEARS THROAT LOUDLY* But I totally agree with your posts, especially about the selfishness. I told my father, generation before his didn't appreciate alot of their music either, lol. It was an interesting arguement, I could tell you that, right now.

Your right some of the music that is out today is well written and does deserve to be acknowledged. Lupe, Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton, Common and John Legend are a few that I can think of off the top of my head. But music probably will never be as good as before because it's not original, how many old skool artists have been sampled? Too many. We don't even have to go back to the real good stuff from the 70's and 80's, cause even music from the 90's has a different sound compared to what's out now. My favorite music era's are the 70's and early to mid 90's, because they have different sounds, but to me both are great. The soul of the 70's-80's and the New Jack/Jill swing of the 90's can never be duplicated.
