I would have to say, men from our church. Firstly, they have also been married longer than we have and secondly, they are willing to pray with him and encourage him in the relationship instead of pointing out the negatives.

I agree with you on this. If there are problems in our relationship I would want to know that he has enough confidence to communicate with me FIRST. Then his best friend, brothers and elders of the church. His momma does not live in my house--keep her, sibs, etc. in THEIRS.

^^^ I'm feeling you Samoon. I don't care how old you are,a mama and sibs are going to be a little biased. Besides, the bible says, forsake your mother and your father and cleave to your wife. The Lord knew even then the power of nosey mama.

I noticed that you didn't include "rank stranger" as an option. What I mean by that is forums such as this, counseling is good but I would save that for the BIGGIES, as it can get expensive. If you've already talked to your mate and you still need to vent, then talk to someone who doesn't care.
If it's truly just about venting, then in my opinion a stranger would be your best bet. Family members tend to be biased for one reason or another,be it that they side with them because that's their baby, brother, sister, etc. Or they side with you.
Friends on the other hand, more often than not, that's why you're friends in the first place...because you think alike on a variety of subjects. So either A) you're looking for someone to say what you want to hear. or B) they won't get totally involved or not tell you what you NEED to hear for fear of ruining the friendship.
So what you need is a totally unbiased opinion, from someone who doesn't have anything to gain or loose.
That is if it's truly just about venting. Preferably someone you won't ever see again or in an anonymous platform. That way you can vent and still keep your business YOUR business.
I was once told that the "more people you tell, twice that many people know" (and that's best case scenario)

I don't mind. We've only been together for a year, so he knows his friends and family a lot better than me. He can talk to whomever he wants and I don't have a problem with it.

I'll never put my total trust in a woman other than my mother. They will betray you everytime.
I trust:
1. Family
2. lifelong friends
3. girlfriend or wife

I would say if we could not reach an agreement or mutual understanding together then we would go to a relationship(marriage counsler) which we have in our church the bible speaks of this when it talks about a man and a woman relationship.
