Do you have to get something in return in order to do something nice for someone?
Is it me or have people gotten extremely rude and selfish. I remember a time when people offered to help an old woman cross the street, help a lady with her bags, help a guy pick up something he dropped. These days though I am seeing more and more people look the other way or worse say things like "whatever" or "not if I can't get something in return". I've even noticed that certain salespeople won't even offer to help you if you don't look a certain way to them.
What's happening ?

I think you are right...this has become such a self centered society. It is foul when people wont do small things for others....they wont help people in bad situations, they wont improve their own behaviour even for the sake of their own children. People are so self centered and it makes me sick. I had it drilled into my head growing up that the worst personality trait is selfishness. I help where I can. Sometimes I am not in the mood...we all get like that...but if we are decent people most of the time, then there will always be more than enough help for someone in need....whether it is small like helping them thru a door, or big like stopping them from being beaten on.
Great topic :)

I think that if you do something nice for someone it comes back to ya in a good way.

I agree with that Sundayy My mom tells me that everyday. But in all honesty I don't need anything in return to do something nice to someone that's just the goodness in my heart. Mom taught me well. Peace and Love.

I don't expect or need anything in return if I do something nice for someone neither.. and it does come back, in roundabout ways, in my experiences. My grandfather says, "If I can help someone, then my life is worth living." That's powerful to me, and I feel the same way; we all should be able to contribute to something other than ourselves.

I am caring and nice by nature.
As a whole, I recognize, everybody wants to take take take, and I guess its ok to want what best for yourself, but people have stopped giving and that has become a problem and is also off balance with taking.
If I volunteer or agree to do something, I ask for nothing in return. Good things will come..

That is a good quote from your Gandfather Yuma!!
It is good to help people...I like to do so....I dont mind doing things for people. I dont expect anything in return.....I know how to know I am being used and I cut people off quick fast if they pull that...but still for what ever reason, even though I have been treated like **** by many, I still am nice and do favours for anyone who will give me the time of day (associates and friends/family) or simply manage to not offend me in some way (strangers).

Too many of us in this society have decided that we are the only ones that matter. I always think back to that episode of "Family Matters" when Laura organized that gun drive after her firend was shot in the arm.... The first guy over to the table asked "So what do we get? Money? Concert tickets?" And Laura "You get your life." And the young man shook his head and walked away.
We should be willing to extend helping hand no matter what. One of the things that disgusts me is people who claim to be religious but will not call 911 is you're bleeding in the street. What ever happened to "Do unto to others....?"
Just remember that whatever you do comes back to you, [sometimes] 3 times over.

When you do something nice for someone , you do get something in return.
There's a good feeling that you get automatically when you do good things.
Receiving something for doing something for someone else is called payment.
