People are everywhere. Why do you have to go anywhere in particular to meet them?
I chat to people while I'm waiting for the bus, on the bus, on the tube, on the street, in shops...literary anywhere & everywhere. The key is to always smile, crack a joke...whatever. People are attracted by smiles and warm faces.
Be friendly and kind...when a neighbour moves into your block, knock on their door and ask them if they are okay. Introduce yourself, offer them the use of your tea and coffee etc whilst they settle in. Don't force yourself on them but just let them know you are open and welcoming so that if they do every need your company they will feel free to come to you.
It often baffles me how people can say they are lonely in London for example. I think it says more about the person than anything else. People complain that no one is friendly. How do they know? They don't even say hello to people they see walking down the street regularly.
