Honestly what the women here have to say about this.

Why is it that when a man tells a joke about a woman that talks about how dumb she may be, or how they get over, it's a stupid offensive joke. But when a woman says the same kind of joke, it's funny?

I like a good joke as much as the next person, and have a pretty healthy sense of humor. I want this to be an intelligent dialogue about the causes of miscommunication between men and women. Because good humor contains a lot of pain. And I think that women tell these jokes because of the oppression that they have experienced at the hands of some men who have no idea what it means to be a real man.

But at the other end of the spectrum, how much damage do we do to ourselves by continuining to perpetrate these stereotypes and myths by continuing to hold on to the hurt and pain that has been caused, instead of using our God given strength as women to be excellent communicators and teachers?

Remember, honest dialogue..... :coffee-n-

I'm not sure what "off-color" jokey-jokes..are considered not funny by men yet double standard funny if women talk about men...

I really can't think of one where some women didn't come back with something just as crazy talkin'...uh like Martin and Pam off old school Martin show...or Kyle/Maxine off Living Single..uh...Comic View even..Def Jam...the men come hard and the women come even harder..

Hate to say it but some stereotypes have become truism...

Curious1...what kinds of jokes?? like what shows were mean on the man's part but though mean on the woman's part..yet "acceptable"???

I don't mean on T.V or anything, I'm thinking more along the lines of today's world. It just seems to me that it's a lot more acceptable for women to make jokes about men then men about women, especially when it comes to smarts, working, etc...

Me and some of my girlfriends were talking about this this weekend and some jokes came up, and I was just thinking that if a man had made a similar joke about a woman, he would have been deemed a sexist. Where as when it's a woman saying the joke about a man, it's just funny and you hear a chorus of 'True, True'.

To me it is like a black comedian making a joke about a white person and that being funny but the opposite is not funny. I guess the topic of the joke like you said it is more acceptable for the "underdog" to make a negative joke about the "favorite" than the other way around.

Why should men make negative jokes about women we already make more money than you control more countries own more land and things like that it would be too much if on top of all that we made nasty jokes about you that were acceptable to society.

I was talking in metaphors here, I dont tell jokes about women or look at them as the underdog, just offering an explanation.

Okay, so in a dialogue between men and women, and the need for us to be able to understand one another, do you think it's counter productive to growth?

I'm all for a good joke. I just don't think that a lot of the times our humor has to come at the expense of someone else.
