Well,
Being recently divorced I can tell you the importance of having a lot in common. I do believe however, the old saying that opposites do attract and that partners should compliment each other. For example, one person could be more analytical or practical and other more spiritual or deeply rooted. Its a challenge no matter the situation but I do believe it is very important.

I guess that would depend on what you consider equally yoked?

I believe having the same philosophies and ideas about life is crucial during the relationship. Similar goals and values are also important.

I'm feeling you on this one. Having the same value system is crucial as well for me. Which doesn't translate as always having the same opinions or beliefs about particular issues. But if I value honesty and you don't... or one values fidelity and the other doesn't... or one values material things and the other values things money can't buy... There is going to be big problems.

Yes it's antiquated. But it's still valid today.

well for me it isn't so much about having things in common, as it's about sharing the same religious belief's and bringing your family up in the same faith..It is far easier to have the same belief system so that when you do come across issues, it's usually a little easier to resolve them. Of course this is all dependent on how open both are to recognizing that they both need work and that marriage is continually a work in progress

Its the only way to fly...
Thats when its really good. Being equally yoked, a biblical definition of being one and the same.
The elders werent wrong....equally yoked is all good. Trust me on that.
