Good Black Man Definition

i just got this from a friend of mine. i want to see what you think.
Quote:
Hey! I thought I would send this. I liked it, and thought it was true.
Good Black Men def. do not come in the package you expect, and will
not have everything you want, but it is the character that matters
most-the inner beauty. And a strong, good Black woman, will only make
a Good Black Man Better! Can I get an amen!!! lol! Oh, and before I
forget, I will finally be getting a home phone (yeah! I'm finally
moving up in the world!), and maybe a new email address this Friday.
I'll let you know. Smile, God loves you! ;)

Subject: A good black man

Everyone who received this is either:
1. A good black man
2. Has a good black man
3. Will be blessed with a good black man soon
4. Has met a Good Black Man; but failed to recognize him.
*******************************
Good Black Men are indeed all around us. We pass them on the streets,
in the malls and the halls at work. Most we can't see because we don't
know what a good man really looks like. He usually isn't flashy enough
or rich enough to turn our heads. He might not wear a suit or push a
Lexus. He might not have a body like Tyson with a Denzel face.
But, as
you mature; you realize it's better to find someone who's got your
back
rather than someone who turns your head.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~recognize.
A good man doesn't agree wholeheartedly with everything you say.
He
doesn't just tell you what you want to hear and do the opposite.
He
doesn't declare how sensitive, sweet t, caring, sincere, yada, yada he
is
(He won't have to because it shows).
He has his own opinions and yours may clash, but he doesn't have to
degrade you to prove he's right. He even admits at times to being
wrong,
especially if you are willing to do the same.
A good man is not going
to meet every item on your checklist. He is human with frailties and
faults mixed in with all of his wonderful, strong attributes. He needs
your love and respect. ~~~~~~~~~~Hello!
He needs to feel that you don't live to catch him doing something
wrong
so you can declare, Aha! I knew you were a dog!! A good man isn't
insecure about his women having great achievements.
In fact he is her number one supporter and becomes disappointed with
her when she begins
to lose herself, for the sake of not hurting his feelings, or just
want
to make him happy.
His happiness comes with seeing her excel in her dreams and
accomplishing her goals. For as she excels and is exalted, a good
woman
will bring her good man right along with her. A good man doesn't
necessarily give you a huge birthday or Valentine's gift.
He shows his love in the ways that are comfortable to him.
Don't judge him by TV standards.
No one is really living a fairy-tale.
You'll miss out on your own fairy tale by buying into the myth that
our men are no good.
It's Just not true.
Black Men, we salute you, and thank you for who you are and all you've
done.
Pass this along to a few women that need to read it ... so that they
can recognize a Good Black Man.
Pass this along to a few Black men that need to know....so they can
recognize..... what it takes to be a Good Black Man
God determines who walks into your life....it's up to you to
decide
who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to
let go.
I definitely agree with what's been said here. Sometimes, we miss out on the good ones, being foolish, running after the bad ones.
Yes, it was posted a while back, but I couldn't find it. Still, as Samoon said, thanks for sharing.
Girl, I know a lot of women who need to see this...
You know, I've got a bit of a story that is related to this whole good man business. I've had this on my heart for awhile..
I've been in doing this whole thesis thing. Not really bothered about the romance bit as it'll come when it comes. So one day my friends told me that I absolutely had to try Lebanese food, because a lot of it is vegetarian and it's delicious. So they take me to this restaurant to try falafels.
Right upon entry, there's this dude standing in the kitchen and he walks out, offers us a friendly smile and takes our order. He's a quiet person and there is just an air of comfort and tranquility around him. Average height. Not big. Cute but none of those classicly handsome features that many covet. Some might think of him as unimpressive. Whatever.
As we are eating (good Lord the food is good), my friends notice that I can't stop staring at him. Eventually, after various eyerolls later, one of my friends pushes me while muttering about how there's nothing about him that should invoke such an enamored reaction from me.
But you see the thing is that he's a man. Calm, self-assured, positive, no need to draw unnecessary attention to himself, quietly self-possessed, and at home with his own body. He's a man. But most of my girlfriends couldn't understand that, nor see what I was seeing in him.
Gradually, the restaurant became a favorite haunt of mine (for more than a few reasons ), whether I was with friends or not. And while he was quiet, he was still quite friendly and would chat amicably for a few minutes with me or other customers whenever he had a moment to sit down. Needless to say, whenever he spoke he had my rapt attention and I'm sure you could see hearts in my eyes.
There was just something so peaceful about him and just talking to him is a form of stress relief.
In any case, I felt bad. I realized that this was a beautiful and wonderful man, but because of the way our society is, a lot of women probably wouldn't give him the time of day. Meanwhile...I was barely restraining myself from asking him if he wanted a wife and I swear I've never eaten so much falafel in my life! So anyway, I wanted to show appreciation for him, so I bought him a potted plant for his restaurant. Among his other admirable traits he worked such long hours. He would always ask me what I was doing during the day, but he'd always work crazy hours at the restaurant and never really got to enjoy the day. I later realized he worked such long hours because he owned the restaurant and worked to send money back to his family in Lebanon. In any case because he didn't get outside much, I wanted to bring a little bit of the outside in to him. (And it's also because he was always really nice and givin me free lunch.)
It goes without saying that my friends have clowned me relentlessly. And yeah, I can understand their teasing to an extent. After all, normal people just don't walk around handing people they barely know gifts, just to show appreciation for the fact that they exist. (But, I've long ago resigned myself to the fact that I ain't normal...) However, they just don't get it. They don't understand why I get easily bored with all the game spittin and smooth talking. Or why I'd get hearts in my eyes from the simple sincerity of a conversation from a genuine peaceful, sweet REAL man.
In any case, I'll be finishing up my master's thesis soon and I'll be heading back down South afterwards. But while I'm here, I'm just gonna try my best to let him know that he is a fine human being and a woman would be lucky to be his wife...just in case he may have doubted his worth in our oftentimes thankless society...
Men...I swear I love ya'll. Yeah, yeah, I'm a staunch femmy sometimes but never doubt that I consider myself blessed when I walk by one of you good men.
...even if you don't give me free delicious falafel pitas for lunch...
Sonflour
Ah, but we know there are people who DO, don't we sweet Sister?
Connected, compassionate people. True bodhisattvas.
People like YOU.
Just when I think you cannot possibly be more incredible, you go and tell a story like this and make me all over again!
(LMAO & ROLF at "staunch femmy" by the way).
