Here's my take. You are no more at risk of meeting a liar on line than face to face. I know, I knew my soon to be ex for 20 years before I married him; and I really had no idea who I married, it was all a well perfected illusion. I now just pray that whomever winds up in my life is the person God wants me to have. You have to be careful whether its on an on line meeting or a face to face one.

SHOOT, these days you just about need to run a full background check
I dated 1 guy I met online (turned out to be the biggest liar I ever met in my life) & I have 2 male friends I met online and we have been friends for about 7 years.
Like some of you said, I prefer to meet face to face. While a person can lie in person, I think its alot easier to put on a big facade online.

That's not always accurate either. People get records expunged, not all states have marriage/divorce records available, etc.

Marriage records and criminal records can't be expunged . However, if the marriage was common law/annulled, that's a different story.

I beg to differ, my ex should have a criminal conviction on his record and it does not show up. I had two background investigations done for the purpose of my divorce and neither of them could find it.

Again, as I stated previously,The only thing that won't show up is common law marriage/annulled, juvenile and psychiatric records. Of course, remember you are what you attract.

I won't argue the point, but I know he was arrested for felony theft, had a trial, got probation and had to pay restitution. It does not show up on a background check.
By the way, he is a highly intelligent, well respected, degreed individual that is well known and liked in his profession. Then there is side that only a wife would see, because he has a public and professional reputation to maintain. That does not appear in any background check. Nor does his conviction. I know it exists, I was in the car when they pulled him over, handcuffed him and took him to jail. Imagine my surprise.
