The scam they call Valentine Day
So I’m guessing in a week or so most of you ladies and gentlemen are going to be somewhere eating a nice romantic meal while opening a box of candy and smelling those fresh roses. If the roses and candy and dinner aren’t enough; just turn on the television I’m sure one of the thousands of jewelry stores commercial will tell you why buying a diamond the size of a bottle cap is not only the best idea but an ideal way of showing how much you love your mate. If you keep your television on you probably will see a few spots on how this must be the only day out of 365 of them that you truly show your love. WHATEVA. Valentine is the biggest scam going down (well besides gas prices). Since when does one day define how much I love my girl? I was under the impression this was a year long thing not just a one day thing. Every Friday or Saturday (depending on work) I take my girl out somewhere. It could be bowling or a dinner or whatever, but we do this every week. Needless to say we don’t participate in this robbery the world calls Valentine day because we feel that we love each other everyday not just on Valentine day. She’s special to me every moment of everyday so I don’t see the need to have just this day to tell her that.

It doesn't matter if I like the day or don't; my point is why only on this day, why isn't it Valentine day year round?

You're right brothaman, it should be Valentine's day year around and that is how I treat my Queen.
Back to your original post. I think that Valentine's day is a lot like other holidays. It is commercialized, and so much emphiasis is placed on the retail aspect. I don't mind though, it's a day women enjoy and I respect that.

What you've said here is closer to the truth than many might think---historically, Valentine's Day has been a Catholic day of feasting based (very tenuously) on the lives of one of three martyred men named "Valentinus":
--a priest in Rome
--a Terni bishop
or
--a martyr in the Roman province of Africa
(it's unknown which of the three was the actual inspiration for this celebration)...none of these men is included in the earliest list of Roman martyrs. So the entire "holiday" may be based on unsubstantiated legend. I agree that we should express our love for our partners on a REGULAR basis...Valentine's Day should hold no more significance than any other day of the year when it comes to romance. :flowers:

There are a few thoughts about how Valentine's day was established. Lets be honest, the economy depends on days like this because of the revenue thats brought in. Take mother's day for example. My mama always tells me every single time it comes around. "everyday is mother's day." I get her a card anyway. Yeah Valentines day should be celebrated everyday. Yet, hey what are gonna do, either you celebrate it or you dont. We know how shallow some of this stuff is, but its like whatever. Do your thing. Love should be celebrated everyday.

I'm blessed to have a woman who demands more than one day. Listen I don't knock anyone who enjoys this day, do what you do. I'm just saying it shouldn't be on the 14th that you give flowers or go to dinner or buy a necklace. The best gifts of love are for no reason at all.

Please! You said alot more than that in your original post; calling it a scam and more.
And to hear people say "Everyday should be Valentines Day" is just unrealistic and ridiculous. No woman wants the same thing everyday. And if you actually ask your woman and listen, she will tell you that.
If I gave my wife candies and flowers EVERYDAY, it would cease to be special and she would be big as a double wide, lol! Only a pessimist or self absorbed individual would excuse away a day that celebrates the goodness of the human spirit so that they can feel better swimming in mediocrity. What's the harm in celebrating a special day with the one you love, the same day that everyone else does? No one EVER said you can't love, honor and cheirsh your woman the day after Valentines, so your point makes no sense to me at all.
I guess you feel the same way about birthdays, Christmas, Family reunions, anniversaries.
Amerikka will seize every opportunity to commercialize any event celebrated by alot of people. That's capitalism.
Some people just look for an excuse to sit on their behinds and do nothing but the bare minimum.....
