I guess the point he may have been making is not so much giving your woman flowers and candy everyday... there's a million other ways a person can show their love without the added expense. Your mate should feel special all the time, not just on Valentine's. Just that one day out of an entire year should not be singled out for the purpose of showing love and affection when it's something that should be a year round event. Personally, I LOVE Valentine's Day, and my Pookie does things for me all the time. For some though, it's the only day of the year their mate shows them any REAL love and attention.

I was about to ask the same thing but Dblack beat me to it.

"...Valentine's Day should hold no more significance than any other day of the year when it comes to romance."
Simply put, this day, like Christmas, Mother/Father and Easter is a day for the merchants to fill their pockets. If your heart is in the right place, one will illustrate all of these and then some---"all the time." Always be mindful of the capitalistic premise and greed of who controls and holds most of the wealth in this country.

I dont think that Valentines HAS to be a day where you spend "boocoo" amounts of money though. I look at it as just as a "Lovers Day" (whether you be "married" lovers or committed relationship lovers)
A day to spend the time and enjoy that special person, whereas any other day or most days are hindered or limited due to work schedules, school, children or any issue that prevents quality time. True you can and should show the person that you're with how much you love them daily, but there's nothing wrong with having a designated day for just you and your special person.
I think that if you look at it in that sense then anything else is irrelevant.

You make far too much sense.
N' as previous posters have stated everything in the country that can be taken advantage of n' capitalized will, there's no gettin' 'round it. So you keep that in mind n' acknowledge the fact that it aint gone change anytime soon n' enjoy n' make the most of these "special" days. Either that or be a scrooge about something you can't change n' use the capitalist thing as an excuse to keep a few bucks in the bank (as if that'll change anything) n' watch TV all day.
