You Mean Great Grandpa Was Also My Cousin?

Have you ever, while discussing your family line, discovered that there were some relatives that might have gotten a little to close? Some even married. I heard it said that within a family, it's ok for 3rd cousins onward to "do the do." What's your view?

Zorro, how do you come up with this stuff?? And what's your view on the topic at hand?

I don't think family should be doing the damn do, I don't care if they are 3rd, 4th, or 12th cousins. Eww. If we know that we're related, we don't go there. There are too many unrelated folks out there to get with. Again, I say eww.

I don't believe that members of the same family should even be thinking of each other like that, let alone actually doing it. But sadly (to me), I've met persons who have done it. They were the ones that told me that 3rd cousins onward is ok. In a different conversation, with a different person, I was told of 1st cousin getting married. But in that case, the rest of their family cut them off.

I think that is gross. Family is family. People these days have an excuse for every crazy thing that they do.

Ok. color me crazy here but either you live in an awfully small town or people just don't get out much and don't know any better.

It's Like That

Due to the current financial restraints the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

The law allows third cousins to marry. That would be someone with whom you share a great-great-grandparent....nobody closer than that.

I don't even have first cousins that I know about, so this hasn't been a concern.

Saraphen, you're right. Technically, third cousins aren't related.

Whether a person lives in a small town or not, and whether people don't get out much or not has nothing to do with this issue. The issue is that people have done it, and are doing it.

Besides, if people are exposed to different things, whether it's their experience or not, dare they share it with others? And when someone hasn't been exposed to certain things, good, bad, or otherwise, when they are, dare they "shoot the messenger?"

I believe in constant learning, which normally results in constant growth. With that said, at this time, I'll color you crazy. :whistling

Yes, some "double kin" does run in my family that's why I joke with my parents a lot about me dating interacially. When we talk about this subject, I always say that that's why I'm gone marry an ASIAN MAN. LOL--- There's NO WAY the two of us could be blood related! LOL.

Anyway, in reference to your "3rd cousin" comment.... I'll say this: Family is FAMILY; And a COUSIN (I don't care where their branch happens to be located on the TREE) is still BLOOD.

Now if you getting it on with someone you never KNEW was kin to you, I'll excuse that. BUT if you CONTINUE to sleep with this person AFTER FINDING OUT or you were aware of it the entire time, then You and YOUR BLOOD slash BOOTY PAL need to get some Psychiatric Counseling cause ya'll definitely got ISSUES. You might even need some medication to control your urges toward each other. I'm sorry, but that's just NASTY! Like I said before, FAMILY is FAMILY regardless as to how far down the line they may be.
