To me, anyone related even through marriage is family. And family members shouldn't be do'in the wild thing with each other.

I remember reading an article where 1st cousins got married in NY, and their grandfather, who was also their Rabbi, performed the service.

Talk about kiss'in cousins.

Now this is different IMO, depending on the way you look at the person. I have people I share no blood ties to but because of marriage we grew up together like family. These people I would never get with because mentally they are as close to me as blood relatives. But on the other hand there are people I am related to by marriage that I don't have these familial ties with and as far as I'm concerned they are up for grabs.

That's some "grab" bag. :)

Could there be a difference between growing up in the same household or just around each other?

I think there's a lot of people who, although had families that were very close without blood ties, grew up around someone who they later married. On the other hand, if people grew up with someone that they had no blood ties to and were told that they were like brothers and sisters, my opinion would be that this would be a case where a line in the sand would be drawn. For instance, I don't know of any foster kids who were unrelated, but grew up together and married.

Anyone up on this?

Hey I got some of that in my family. It is really sad how it is though. My stepsisters daughter's father is my step sisters' stepdad, so my nieces' aunt & uncle are her sister & brother too. Wow

Oh & I remember my stepsister being in love with her 1st cousin. ( Her Grandmothers sister child)

There is a high probability of genetic challenges with any child born from this. I wouldn't recommend it for this reason. As far as my opinion on it is concerned, does it really matter all that much what I think when it comes to someone else's personal life?

Again, not meaning to be curt, but I really don't care what someone does or does not do. The choice is theirs ultimately. Just be prepared for the potential outcome is all I have to say to anyone who does this. If you can handle it, then go for it. If you can’t handle it, then maybe you should abstain.

I remember reading once about a couple of ex slaves who got married only to discover that the groom was the bride's son. It was used as an example of just how disastrous the institution of slavery was (is) on the Black family.
